My Deposit Adventure...

Okay,
Here's my morning adventure.

Logged on to PokerStars...
Went to the cashier and selected the visa option for deposits.
Proceeded to fill in my information correctly, and the amount.
Henceforth, my card was quickly declined to due new Visa Policies on On-line gaming. Understandable I guess but a pain in the ass.

Logged on Neteller, signed up for a new account,
went to credit my account using my visa, again Declined. Recieved a quick phone call from Neteller explaining that now over 90% of deposits by visa are rejected, and was told of various other ways.

Logged on to Western Union (maybe finally I can get this to go through), Everything was in order, until I get to the Visa Information, where I see a message

"Some Credit Card companies charge an additional fee for this type of transaction to be completed as well".

So, just wondering if anyone has deposited with a CC& Western Union and what kind of "charge" are they talking about, I realize there is a $35.00 charge by Western Union, but would the CC company Charge,
I use a VISA if that helps,

Very Frusterated,

H.

  • I've never used a credit card with Western Union, so I can't answer that particular question. You might be able to get this information directly from your credit card company.

Possibly Neteller already mentioned this to you, but another alternative could be to link a chequing account to Neteller. You can link a Canadian (or US if you happen to have one) chequing account to Neteller for deposits and withdrawls. This does take some time (maybe a week or two) to set up however.

However, if you strongly prefer using a credit card, I can't think of any suggestions beyond what you've tried already.

    have ya tried using MasterCard?
  • Just as a side note, I was looking into opening an American bank account so I would not have to deal with currency conversion (not just for Poker but eBay and other expenses as I am finding more and more are now in USD). Scotia has an American account that you only need to carry a balance of $200USD to not pay for and service fees. You get a couple of withdrawals and deposits per month free and then after that it is $0.60USD per transaction.
  • Ive been using my TD GM Visa on Pokerstars to fund my account and havent had a problem. But then again its been months since the last time i deposited money into my account. Which CC company are you using?

I looked into the same thing a couple of years ago. I checked out all five candian banks: TD, Scotia, Royal, BOM, and CIBC. All of them offered US dollar accounts but Royal was the only one that had no minimum balance without fees. This was 3 years ago so things may have changed, but i still have my royal US account and it works great.

Hound, if you have the cash available, you might want to use a western union agent. They are all over at places like money mart, or variety stores etc. For a flat fee of $15 Canadian you can send up to $5000. This was my main method for depositing to internet sportsbooks.
  • Yeah, I used my Student Card VISA to fund my poker bankroll, but only @ Pokerroom and 7sultans and neteller (never declined yet)
  • i have a neteller account linked to a seperate bank account i created just for online poker. well, to try and seep things up, i attempted to make a deposit using my master card. same problem...declined because "some credit card companies don't allow blah blah blah"

    oh well...what can you do
  • Visa and MC have started to chenge there policies awhile ago. TD bank is still one of the few that still allow it. By far and away the best is the setting up a bank account and link it to neteller. I have been doing this for over a year now. Fast effective and easy. Take the time to do it this way, the tables will still be there.
  • SWEET! I am under TD Visa, so PHEW, i can still deposit at will :)
  • Just one more experience to add to the mass:

I have always used my TD Green Visa for deposits. I never had a problem. My last deposit was as recent as a couple of months ago. I have had cashouts as cashbacks to my Visa with no problem. I have had cashouts to Paypal back in the day when they accepted online gambling transactions, and tranferred that directly to my chequing account, never a problem. I have cashed out to Neteller (before they allowed you to link to Canadian bank accounts) and had them (Neteller) send me a cheque... no problems.

More recently, I have linked up my chequing account to Neteller, so I could make withdrawls/deposits that way, but I have not yet done either. However, this DOES seem to be the easiest way to do things. For those who have not done it, here is how it works: You give them your chequing account information (can be found on the bottom of one of your cheques). They make a small deposit less than $1 into your account (for me it was 18c). You go to your bank, get a transaction history, find out how much the deposit was for, and enter that amount into a little box on their website for verification purposes. Seems to be a waste of time (I don't recall ever having to go through this with Paypal), but hey, ya do what ya gotta do. The whole process takes about 2 business days. After all this, I am 18c richer (anyone wanna play some 1c-2c holdem?), and can make withdrawls/deposits with ease. 8)
