Now I'm worried that a push from me gives the BB odds to call with any 2, and im not keen on facing 4 overs
I muck - turns out i wouldve tripled up

Tomo was a very tight player, and his min-raise UTG terrified me...
I folded, and it was folded around to him
FYI, i open this pot with an all-in bet if Tomo folds

With only 1000 in my stack, do I make this call?

I folded, and 2 people went all in behind me.... original raiser folded
they showed AK and AQ and the board was QJQxK

Pretty obvious here i think. I push, tomo calls and i triple through....

Please share your thoughts

Comments

  • Hand 1:  Oops misread.  I still think I'm gonna gamble and pray the BB folds or they share an overcard.

Hand 2: I would be terrified too.  I like folding here.  Al-in can't be that big a mistake though.

Hand 3: This is a pretty easy fold imo.  QJ is garbage against a raise, you need to be first in with it.  You have a few more hands before the blind to find a better spot. (ie opening all-in with any 2 cards)

Hand 4: It depends what the limps represent.  You have enough chips that completing and hoping for a flop isn't terrible, but unless you're pretty sure someone has a bigger pair and is going to call you need to get all-in with excellent pot odds.
  • I know for a fact that short stack playing is one of my biggest downfalls. It sucks to not have enough chip power to play they way you want to.

One of the guys here gave a great piece of advise though recently. When your short stacked, you want the other players to chase YOU, not you chase them.

For what it's worth, here's what I would have most likely have done, and please don't consider this gospel, cause it's just what I would have done in your shoes:

    Hand 1:
PUSH allin. I'm in a spot here, not the shortest stack, but enough so that I would need a double up just to get back in the game again.

    Hand 2:
Now I AM short stacked. But the read from the raiser is he is a tight player, I know he has something to kill me off. As much as I would hate to do it, I would probably fold to him.

    Hand 3:
QJ? Risky at best. Villian isn't chip leader, but he's healthy enough to warrant reconsideration. Even with the folds to you, I would have folded as well.

    Hand 4:
PUSH allin. Limpers all around, I would think my 6's are pretty decent at the moment, and an allin bet just might them fold to me. It's a gamble at best, but again, your chip postion warrants a risk.

Well, that's my opinion, and for the most part, it's probably why I don't do so well in short stack situations. Would like to see other's responses to both your original post as well as mine.
  • I think hands 2,3, and 4 are pretty obvious and I think you played them correctly, without the read on the tight player in hand 2 I'm likely all-in.....but hand 1 I think is perhaps my weakness....would love to hear more thoughts on this.

I would have pushed all-in, perhaps I panic a bit early being short stacked but in this case I'm happy getting my chips in with any pocket pair. I have been in this position before and usually my low pair does not hold up....but BB is in a desperate situation as well so is going all-in the right move here? BB, I believe, will call with any two cards....so what to do??????
