A very hippothetical question

5 players at the table with two sitting out... the small blind and big blind have been collected form the two players sitting out as they are beside each other.
UTG folds
Next player folds...
Third player (dealer) without thinking folds...
Small blind is mucked as he is away...
Does the big blind get the pot as no one has called his BB bet?
Does player Three get the pot even though he mucked his cards by mistake...

I know the situation is bizzare but it could happen on the internet...
At a live table would the dealer just push the pot to player three because he is the only one left?

  • at a live table, if the person playing the small blind is away, they are not automatically posted.  generally they are given a button to signify that they missed their small blind, and that person would be forced to pay his small blind in the first pot he plays when he returns.

in a tourney, the sb is posted for the away player and is treated as an automatic fold ...usually.
  • :s: :d: :c: :h:

This happened in the tourney I was playing on UB last night!

Everyone folds to the BB who has been sitting out all tourney!!?!!
(free money for the SB but he must have hit the fold button before the action got to him!!)
I've seen this happen about a dozen times in online tournaments.

Thats why you should always wait until your turn before you make your decision to fold, check, or bet!!
  • depends on if it's hippothetical or HUNGRY HUNGRY hippothetical
  • Last night in Pokerroom, down to final 2 tables, one medium stack was down to about 80k - he had been away for about 45 min and had been blinded down from about 180k. He was away, everyone folded to him in BB and he took 18k. He made it to final table, came back, started playing again and finished 4th. If the SB hadn't made that stupid mistake, if the away player had made final table at all, he would have been severely short stacked.
