PS Omaha Limit Tourney - two suckouts in a row to get knocked out

Well half this post is maybe to get some sympathy (might not be deserved with the mistakes I made), the other to comment on my play, where if any I could have scared anyone away (I highly doubt it), or just in general played better... Table is very loose and lotsa big stacks at my table including number 1 and 2, I'm in about 30th with 70 left (out of 2900), top 27 get invite to $1000 tourney (yeah it's just a freeroll). Okay not a big deal but I've only been working on my Omaha for a couple of months and I'm pretty proud of myself. There are two instances where I commented that would have kept me alive with 12k in chips... anywhere else you think I misplayed?

Comments

  • I think in both hands you played pre-flop, flop and turn fine.

Raising the flop with the 6-out flush draw1 would have been pressing too weak of a draw.

I think the closest decision was in Hand #1 on the turn. Checking behind the big field is a reasonable play.

Each river play was a disaster. You can't control the cards that come off the deck, but you can control your poker decisions.

You've got to fold top set on the river in the first hand. All the reasonable (and lots of unreasonable) straight draws are now complete. It would be a tricky decision holding a K-high straight, so a worse hand than this is a pretty clear fold.

In the second hand, your opponent is a fool to try to check-raise you (or even to simply to check to attempt to induce a bet, fearing you will fold if he bets). When a foolish play an opponent has made against you succeeds, that is generally evidence that you have made an error. Check and shwo down the flush now that the board has paired. The slim chance (since there are only 5 hearts among the entire 45 unseen cards) that your opponent will pay you off with a flush is overmatched by the chances that your opponent has not filled up.

On the other hand, is it even possible that your opponent holds something like 94xx, 93xx, or 92xx pre-flop, or has a flopped set? These are unusual holdings from someone with reasonable starting requirements. Well, it turns out that it is certainly possible. If you didn't notice before, you can see from your opponent's previous pre-flop play (KQ72ss) that he would play any four.
