Check behind??

Comments

  • how is it even close?

    BET!!!!
  • Check behind??

    If you hate money, yes.
  • ok ok ok, i know!

i did bet, and he folded

my only reason for posting this was that i figure i was so far ahead, i thought i could induce a blluff on the river

he has fairly aggressive, and i thought maybe a check could earn me an extra BB

for future reference, could you please post some reasoning behind your rationale... i think that wouuld lead to a far better disscussion.....

ok, here are my list of reasons for betting...

    1. you likely have the best hand
    2. your opponent is extremely loose, he will call with many worse hands
    3. your opponent is agressive, and likely to bluff raise allowing you make more bets
    4. you have a nut redraw on the odd chance you are behind
    5. you dont mind taking the pot down now with a bet
    6. ...did i mention,  you likely have the best hand?
i figure i was so far ahead, i thought i could induce a blluff on the river

save inducing bluffs for situations where you have a hand you cant value bet.
  • Here is how I see it.

You check. River comes, he bets, you raise, he calls. You win 2BB.
    or
You bet, he calls. River comes, he checks, you bet, he calls. You win 2BB.
    or
You check. River comes, he checks, you bet, he bluff raises, you reraise, he folds. You win 2 BB.

Of these 3 in LLHE, I choose 2nd scenario EVERY time. If he is going to suck out on you, MAKE HIM PAY.
  • good analysis guys - i appreciate the feedback

seems like everyone agrees with my action - i guess im being results oriented b/c the guy folded

so let me ask this, if the river is a club.... the :qc for instance - do you still bet here, or check it?
  • Sorry for no reasoning in my response. My only real reasoning is that people like to call a lot, so I bet when I have good hands a lot, checking just seems like fancy play syndrome. In a NL game I think checking here is a fairly standard option to induce bluffs and make sure you don't get raised off your nut flush draw though I still tend to bet it against most players.

Do you mean the turn??.... anyway... I bet the turn here on almost anything, any club, any ace, or any non-face card... until he shows some game, I'm gonna assume you're ahead...

Sure, I would check check here and show down the nuts in order to induce bluffs on future hands.
