Hunting Peacock & other random thoughts
Alright... everyone has got those fancy names for player types... the fox, lion, mouse, etc... Let me introduce you to the Peacock... He's a proud speciman... confident, alert, and always trying to bring attention to himself.. showing his bluffs, trying to bully everyone at the table, commenting on the play of hands. He's competant, sometimes tricky, running good & wearin' shades. He rakes in a large pot as I sit down in seat 7.
I'm a regular in this game... but I've not seen this Peacock before. Another regular, "Charles", in seat 6, shugs as I sit down. Charles is a tight-ass... err... tight player... I've known him for years! I buy in for $500 (max) in this 1/3 NL game.
An hour or so goes by... nothing eventful... a limp here, a limp there, one reasonable hand... but the flop betrays me... lots of action... I fold. Then I get JJ UTG and raise it up to $20... Peacock calls from LP and the SB calls. SB is a "solid" LAG... Flop comes JT2 (woohoo) but its a 3-flush in hearts... SB bets out $30... I call as does Peacock. Turn's a black brick... SB checks... I bet $50 (I think I'm best here now).. then Peacock shoves all-in... about $1200... SS folds quickly and it's to me... does he have the flush??... I'm unsure... I think... and think some more... Finally I fold... and toss my hooks face up on the table... something I don't usually do. Peacock plays his part and shows all his AT.... no hearts... He's all smiles as he stackes the pot... Charles mumbles to me... "Don't encourage him?" I shrug!!
An hour later I'm up to $700 when my ducks "quad" up on a flop of A22... "nice". The very next hand Peacock breaks Charles for about $400 when the Peacock flops a boat holding 69o... Charles has 66... the poker gods are busy elsewhere apparently!!
Charles buys back in for another $300... his face is red...he's mumbling expletives...
Hmmm... this is a nice hand... one limper... I raise to $20... Peacock calls from the BB... limper calls. Flops comes J65 rainbow... beauty flop... Peacock checks... limper checks... I bet $50... Peacock raises to $150... limper folds... I think.... and think some more... Peacock is a statue... he doesn't move... "What can he have?" I ask myself... finally I call. Turn card is an off-suit 9... "Check to the check/raiser" I say... Charles chuckles... Peacock bet $100... looks like a "call-me" bet... I raise all-in... Peacock smiles widely, "Looks like I picked a bas time to make a play," and tables AK... Charles askes for everyone "You raised to $150 with AK-shit?" Peacock just smiles sheepishly... but I come to his defense...
"Sometimes it works!" and toss my AK face up!
I rack up!
