I think I saw something similar on this forum a few months back. I don't remember how it went exactly, but it was something like this:
Reporter: What are you doing here?
Cop: Looking for poker games.
Reporter: Isn't there more important crimes to investigate? Murders, for example?
Cop: Murders usually only involve two people, and by the time we get there only one is stiil alive, and they have fled the scene. Poker games on the other hand, involve large numbers of people in comparison, and they are easy to find. These people can be found all together in one location at a specific period of time spanning several hours. We can come and break up the game and lay charges anytime during that time interval, so we don't have to worry about missing our coffee breaks at the Tim Horton's.
Reporter: But murders are violent. These poker players are not hurting anybody.
Cop: A murderer is gonna try to shoot or stab us to try to get away, and that is only if we are lucky enough to find him after many hours, days, or weeks of searching. Poker players on the other hand, are not going to shoot at us, or stab us. We can just show up and shut down the game, hand out some charges, and go back to the precinct to fill out the paperwork. Sometimes, we even show up BEFORE the game and shut it down before it even happens to save on the paperwork. We call it "crime prevention".
Reporter: So, your saying that --.
Cop: Hold on a sec, I'm getting a call from dispatch.(listens for a while) I gotta head back to the station. My shift is almost over and I'm heading over to play in a $20 No Limit tourney at a buddy's place. It's my turn to bring the doughnuts.
