I noticed in the forum profile preferences you can set your "Smiley Set", maybe these images need to exist in every directory that relates to the various "Smiley Set"s?

Probably true. Nice catch!
As a fix if you're having problems, you might try changing your "Smiley Set" under
Profile -> Look & Layout Preferences
to something else and see if it helps.
It seems that the "Default" smiley set works for me, and the "Classic" smiley set does not.

example :4x (where x is h,c,d, or s)
I think that the card smileys look nice and (importantly) are easy to use, but are maybe a little :2h big.

while FireFox shows:
http://www.pokerforum.ca/forum/Smileys//td.gif
so "default" directory seems to be getting stripped.

in the HTML source.

In the original post, I see red X's using IE. The source code for those smileys appears to me to be http://www.pokerforum.ca/forum/Smileys/classic/as.gif.
However, later in the thread, there is this URL http://www.pokerforum.ca/forum/Smileys/default/td.gif. Which, when I click on it I see .
So, maybe there needs to be a little editing; just switch classic for default and see if that works for all users.
