Point Edward vs. Brantford

Hi All,

Is there much of a difference b/w playing 5/10 at Brantford vs. Point Edward?

Point Edward you can call ahead from London and get your name of the list which is certainly a good thing.

We were down at Edward a few saturday's ago and they didn't get a game going till 1 in the afternoon, which is abit late

Just thinking of hitting Edward since it is probably 20 minutes or so closer to my house since i live in NW london and can just pop on the highway.

thanks for your thoughts!

  • I wouldn't say there is a huge difference in the 5-10 games in terms of skill level. If anything, Brantford is by far a more populated casino on the whole, so you're more likely to get soft "drop-in" poker players. However, now that Brantford had 2-5 and PE has 3-6, the importance of the drop-in factor is enormously reduced in each 5-10 game.

The main difference is probably going to be number of players/tables going. I'd almost never expect there to be no 5-10 game available at Brantford, but you might see 5-10 games breaking (or not running at all) during off peak hours at PE. It's nothing more than geography. Brantford is close to Toronto and PE is close to nothing.

On the other hand, being able to call ahead to get on the list at Point Edward IMO is a very big deal. The wait times at Brantford can occasionally be pretty absurd, and on average are probably more than they should be. The ability to phone ahead and wait in the poker line at PE as you travel is huge.

All in all, it's a pretty close decision. For me personally, the 20 minute drive time difference might put PE over the top.

I'd agree with you there. I tend to end up hitting Brantford usually on weekends. In general, I'd say the worst wait lists are going to be the 2-5 tables (often 1.5-2 hrs in the evening). I think I had around a 30-40 min wait last Friday for a 5-10 table though. I think the long wait lists for 2-5 actually drives some of these players to play 5-10 though at Brantford, which obviously is a good thing.
  • Thanks for the replies.

Well this morning I called ahead and got on the list for 5/10 at PE.

Arrived about 1115 and was seated immediately.

    Only one table running.

Bought in for 400 and after three hours was down to about 100. Crazy the things some people play. On one of the last hands played I had A7 spades in the BB. So seven people are in and buddy on the in late, says 'i'm just betting to see if any of you will chase me'....so i called it for another five, I ended up with the nut flush on the river and buddy flips over 53, giving him two pairs. So that put be back to about 350.

Next hand nothing, so i get up to go pee (if you must know) and come back and four people left so they broke up the game at 4 pm.

I was planning on staying until 7ish, so I guess that is a big downfall for PE.

Driving from London for that....just not worth it. Next week I'll probably be hitting the western fair and then brantford after that.

    Thanks all
