I just read SSHE...so did I apply the right concepts here?

Man that book rocks, but so much to think about. A hand for discussion...

Paradise Poker 1/2 Hold'em (10 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is Button with Ac, Kd.
4 folds, MP2 raises, 1 fold, CO calls, Hero 3-bets, 2 folds, MP2 calls, CO calls.

Flop: (10.50 SB) Qd, 8h, Jd (3 players)
MP2 checks, CO bets, Hero raises, MP2 calls, CO calls.

I'm getting odds to at least call here with my gutshot and backdoor flush draw. Plus I have some partial outs with overcards. I raise to possibly buy some outs (I'd like hands like KJ, AJ, A8s to fold), and more importantly to try to get a free turn card. Thoughts?

Turn: (8.25 BB) 7c (3 players)
MP2 checks, CO checks, Hero checks. Tough to bet here. Does anyone bet here?

River: (8.25 BB) Jh (3 players)
MP2 checks, CO checks, Hero checks. Felt like original bettor had to have at least a Q to bet into me, I don't think I'm getting anyone to fold for one bet.

Final Pot: 8.25 BB

Results below:
MP2 has Th Ad (one pair, jacks).
CO has Qc Ah (two pair, queens and jacks).
Hero has Ac Kd (one pair, jacks).
Outcome: CO wins 8.25 BB.

Ugh. I was drawing to only 3 outs. But IF I could have gotten the ATo to fold my 3 K's would have been good, not to mention my flush draw if a diamond fell on the turn. Comments? Specifically, is this pot big enough to try to make this play or should I simply have called on the flop?

  • Well played.

The flop bet usually means some sort of pair, so theres no point in betting the turn and take the free showdown.
