Brantford Cheats? Is this true?

Not trying to stir anything up here...but....

A friend of mine who is a cop and a reasonable player was saying that many of the regular groups of players in Brantford have a system. I won't mention any particular nationalities (as he did). But what he basically said was that they have very elaborate codes for everything.......a quarter turn of the ring is A, putting two chips on your hole cards is a K etc etc etc for all the 13 diferent cards and then a separate signal for the suit. He says it is VERY VERY subtle and no one would even notice. Anyway he said this is the way that it is done in brantford and then they get together after and split all the profits equaly?

any comments? I find it hard to believe myself, but you never know.

thanks

  • I've been there a ton in the last few months playing mostly 10/20.   I know there are some notable abscences from the game these days and I suspect some players have been banned.  There is, and always be some degree of cheating no matter where you play, online, live etc.

I haven't noticed a ton of cheating in the games.  I have seen a little now and then, and the ones I suspect really haven't played much lately.  From my experience, I'd say the cheating is an advantage for a good honest player in most games, as long as they are aware.  Many times, you're getting 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 on your money.  Like most cheating the players are not good enough to make money playing honestly.  So, they are bad players.  And in the end, they still need to play the game.

Always beware, but the game is very beatable and I think the room does a good job of policing the game.

  • thanks for you comments.

personally I've only played there a couple of time 2/5 and 5/10. I don't think that really it's worth the time to cheat at 2/5. I broke even both times I've played there, but that was awhile ago. I liked Brantford when I was there, lots of games, private poker area. I just returned from a trip to point Edward and played 3/6...came out up $225 after four hours so i was happy. Just didn't care for the fact the tables are in the same room as the slots, so it's kinda noisy.

Solid play is the way to go, but I'm glad to hear that brantford does take steps to take care of those players.

    have a great day!
  • I play $5 - $10 and I haven't seen anything unusual at this level. Only once has a dealer asked a couple players to speak English instead of their native tongue. I am not surprised if this is occuring
at the higher limit tables. I think this type of thing also occurs online as well. If I see a table with 5 guys from Sweden I would definitely not sit at that table. The same goes with the casino.

Rama has a posted policy of ENGLISH only at the tables. I've also seen on line poker sites with that policy too.
