Hockey ... you gonna watch it?

I will likely watch the first period & Coaches Corner of the Leafs games. After that, if there is something else on (movie, somewhat interesting tv show or my wife falls asleep and I can get a quick boob feel in (hers I mean)) then I'll prbably turn it off.

You?

  • I will be back to watch my beloved sadsack Leafs...and probably will force my kids to watch the first period with me.
I didn't necessarily "miss" hockey, but, I am curious about all the roster changes and the rule changes.

Gide's hockey pool league will add some excited to it as well.
  • I'll be watching quite a bit. I love the Leafs and hockey in general, and during the season I'll leave a game on at night while I'm working. I'm really glad it's back!
  • During the lockout I didn't miss it at all. Ok, maybe a little a the beginning, but that went away. I have been an avid Leafs fan for many years. I don't go to too many games, but there aren't very many in the last number of years that I have missed watching on the tee vee.

I am happy it's back as well. I am even more happy that the players got their asses handed to them and the owners pretty much got what they wanted.

That said, I am likely to resume my lust for the Leafs, especially since they have signed Eric Lindros. I had season tickets when he was in Oshawa and he sure was a treat to watch.
  • I'll definitely watch...in fact, I'll probably get the Centre Ice package from Rogers because I think it will be the best season in a lonnnggggg time.  I know many people are fed up with the NHL.  I know a lot of people that were (and still are) quite angry about the way things went over the past year, and they say that the labour dispute has put them off hockey.  Frankly, I'm sick of hearing people say that the NHL will have to win them back...the players are selfish and don't deserve what they make...etc, etc.  If these people played in the NHL, I can guarantee they would not have happily accepted a pay cut.  Its human nature to protect what you have.

Yes, NHL salaries are high.  But when you compare what NHL players have to put up with compared to baseball or basketball players (even football players...they only play once a week for a few months), I think they should be the highest paid athletes of them all.  I think a lot of people just get angry about what the media tells them to get angry about, and they ignore the rest (i.e. is Tom Cruise really worth $20 million per movie?).

Anyway, sorry for the rant :).  I can't wait for October 5th!
  • Not a chance.  One year.  Eric Lin-who?

    *Reads rest of thread*

Ok you have a good point with Coaches Corner!
Wolffhound, lol sadsack.  I can say one of those vain things now like the year I don't watch is probably the year they win.  At least they're smart enough to change some rules.  I was even thinking that changing the division names some time back was sheer tinkering.  Still, something had to be done, especially after the last year.
  • The NHL will be very interesting to watch. I can't wait for the Olympics in Torino. Go Canada Go!
  • A chance to Lindross take one last brain crashing, skull splitting hit???? HELL YES I'M GOING WATCH THAT!!!! :D And I will be the one cheering the most when it happens too.

Don't get me wrong, the Leafs are my second team, and I would love to see them win the cup just once more in my lifetime and preferrably before HELL freezes over. BUT LINDROSS????? The sooner he leaves the game for good, the better.
  • The real question is "Will poker still be as popular?"
How many people won't want to leave the house, especailly once the platoffs have started, to play some poker? Will anybody want to play on a Saturday night?
I guess we could have a TV or Radio close so people care can get the updates.

    Time will tell.

  • We'll just be playing poker in front of the TV so we can listen to Bob Cole state 500x per game....

"and I'm Bob Cole with Harry Neale and your watching the Leafs who are down 5-0 to the Philadelphia Flyers here in the 2nd period."

Bob Cole drives me crazy...It's time they told him to move back to Topsoil, Newfie-land so he can hangout with his wife and 8 children.

I know Joe Bowen is a homer but I love listening to him and Harry Neale who is the best color-man in the business.
