How many limits do you play?

Online, I typically play 1/2 NL but I've played 2/4 NL even .50/1 NL and take some bonus winnings to 5/10.  Sometimes I just don't feel in top shape, perhaps I should be sitting out.  Instead I'll go in cheap and splash around at a low level.

I have a feeling most people don't go for a wide range and stick to a certain level.

  • I'm generally a limit HE player. 1/2, 2/4, and the occasional 3/6, as well as 0.5/1 NLHE, but thats pretty much it.
  • I will play all across the board in both terms of limits and tourney buy-ins.  As long as you make sure to play with in your 'roll then all will be well.  There is a lot of literature on this subject with many different views.  I personally love trying to take a shot at the "next level" but will mostly play within my 'roll.
  • I mainly play 1-2 and 2-4 LHE, occaisionally will dabble in .10-25 or .25-50 NL games as well. As well when I need a break from HE, I'll dable in .50-1, 1-2 Omaha H/L and Stud. The players in both of these games just seem to be action monkeys compared to equivalent limits of Hold'em. As well I'll play $5 and $10 SNG's. I'm absolutely meticulous about tracking my online winnings/losses, but I'm absolutely horrid at tracking my live game stuff at either home games or at the casino. I guess I view my live games as more entertainment and online as more of an investment. I'm aware I probably have the roll to play 2-5 in the casino, and I probably don't to play 5-10, but I know both of these games are easily within the range of games I can beat.
  • Funny you should post this, as I was wondering about my own bouncing around limits lately. I chalk it up to being bored.
I generally am a .50/1.00 limit Holdem and Omaha player along with NL SNG's, either 1.20 or 5 + .50.

The past few months after getting off to decent start to the month, say a 20% (whoring $ incl) increase to my BR, I have jumped around limits. Some 2/4 and 3/6 limit, 10+1 SNG's.

I ended the past few months with modest 10% increases, tell myself to be happy as "up is up", but, generally pissed off at myself for jumping around, getting pounded, and coming back to .50/1.00 minus a decent chunk of the money I was up.

For me its boredom with online games.
  • I play a wide range.

Mostly 5/10, sometimes I move down to 2/4 and 3/6. Occasionally when all of those have been full I will move up to 10/20, and once I even moved to 15/30 by sheer accident. I thought I was clicking on the last game in the list of 10/20, but it was actually the first game of the 15/30 list. That was way above my normal realm but I stayed for a few orbits and ended up making a nice tidy sum to boot.

For tournaments I like to play in the $33 NL one at Pacific, I usually play that 3-4 times a week. After not finishing in the money for the first many, I have managed to squeek onto the good side of the bubble the last couple times. Once for 33rd and once for 19th.

I also play alot of the $10-$30 SNG's, usually with at least 20 people, but sometimes with 10 if the buyin and payout structure make it worthwhile.

I agree, I am a winning live player and when I used to play cash games online in the past, I was about a break-even player. I find playing a full table game online very boring. I have resolved to try it again after 6 months or so away from cash games online. I will be playing only 2-3 hour sessions (roughly as many hands as 4-5 hours live, which is generally my optimal session time) and closely watching my play. I'll be starting at 5 10 and seeing how it goes.

Maybe placing $300 in real chips infront of me and adjusting my stack with my play will help me be more focused :D, staying one step closer to the real money I bought in with.
