Red Hot Poker Tour

Does anyone here play on the Red Hot Poker Tour. I was thinking about going down to an event. If you have played in an event, how many guys do they get for a turn out. Also, is it true there is no buy-in and no prize money. thanks.

  • KW area they usually get 30-40 guys and 3-8 women.  No buy-in but if you win - you get a hat!
  • lol
Yes I play there all the time, its great.
And no there are about 7-10 tables of 8 at almost every place.
  • Your forum sucks.

It's pathetically obvious when you spam fcp, nwp, and even canada's poker forum. I'm sure you've spammed many others as well...
  • I went to the RHPT at Molly Blooms in Kitchener last night. Must say it was a well run game, but they couldn't have held it in a scummier place. The tables were all sticky, even before the goof spilled his pint all over the cards, the table, and the chips while raking in a pot. Nothing like sitting out a whole blind level cleaning up! The only solution for that place is fire - and lots of it! You'd think that they could at least maintain the bathrooms above a highway reststop standard.

Ok, mini-rant about the location over. It was a pretty good structure with lots of people. Over 100 played, 9 tables, plus a waiting list for the early bust outs. :fish: All-in on bottom pair?!?!? Still self dealt, which also lead to a lot of confusion and arguments when it came to things like side pots and dead blinds, etc. Had to get the floor person more than once. I knew the correct call every time, but these other guys at the table didn't trust me. I lasted for a couple table collapses, but not long after that (of course, bad beat story to follow, feel free to comment on the play).

Anyway, I played really well at the start and lost a couple big pots to runner runner flushes. Outlasted both pals I went with. They were kibitzing over my shoulder when "the worst" happened. Ante/blinds were 100/300/600 and I had about 3000 still in chips which was a low stack, but not the shortest at the table. Sitting in the BB with 10 6 :s: All limp, so I check, nice big family pot. Flop comes 10 6 9 rainbow, so no flush draw yet. Check all around to the guy to my right who goes all in for 2700.
Sidebar: This guy has been showing his hands all night, even when everyone folds. He was aggressive with 4 flushes and 4 to the straight.
I didn't think he had the 78 because he was slow to act and had jumped on other pots when in the lead. So I call the all-in for less, I only had 2400 left. He showed 7 4 :d: Dominated! Turn didn't change anything, river was an 8! The only good thing is my buddies were tired of waiting around, so we all left.

Will probably try to go again next week, but as mentioned above, the venue really turned us off. Make sure you go potty before you get there and don't drink too many beers! It just isn't worth getting that much of other people's urine on your shoes!
  • I've played in several in my area, reasonably well run but as previously stated, self dealt. No cost no proze money, sometimes a donated prize or two to the winner. Very good turnouts, 40-80 that I have been to... Filthy's in Burlington, Bert and Ernies in Etobicoke are both reasonable bars, and relatively clean.
  • It's a good tournament to practice at. The structure is fast - the tournament lasts 3.5 hours and goes through 80-100 people. Much of the play is either super tight, or maniacal. The directors/hosts are cool and well organized, though some directors have different rules (ie what happens in the case of an out-of-turn bet). Totally free - and a good place to practice live poker and improve your tells...:)
  • Played on Wed. @ Bert&Ernies, had a good time. Cheap way to burn an evening, and have some fun too. If I lived in T.O. I think I'd be a chronic player. :D
  • I've played a few times and found it to be pretty good too. Another good free one is the Pirana poker tour. They offer rebuys. All you have to do to rebuy is buy anything from the bar (ie. food or drinks) and you will get a ticket good for one rebuy.
  • Yeah, I've noticed players that bust out early in the freezeout tours go to the nearby St. Louis or Fox & Fiddle to play in the Pirana Poker Tour. I read that teams can be registered this week then there will be a playoff tournament later where the winning team will win a deluxe poker table, chip set and Copags cards.

  • I think the thing about these that is the most fun is the people. Last one i played at there was some guy with sunglasses, a cap and a mp3 player on my table. And i love to hear their comments after about how they had to call. So much fun.
  • There were special prizes when I won a tournament this week:
    - Daniel Negreanu deluxe poker chip set, including a limited edition autographed "Card Player of the Year" cover
    - Daniel Negreanu Digital Timer
    - Card protector that is supposed to look like Negreanu :D
    - Black hat signed by Negreanu
    - T-shirt
    - Toque
    - Gift certificate.
    :)
