  • Bizarre. I bet the vaaaaaaaaast majority of readers are like "Devin who?". I don't recall playing a $50 MTT on Friday, but I guess I did...

That's the first time I've seen my name mentioned without much context, as if people are expected to know who I am. I think it'll be a while before I see it again. ;) Thanks for the heads-up gordon.
  • I don't think I've ever heard of kibo-izing OTHER people..

    Mr. Z,

I am 31. I am old. "kibo-izing" sounds like something the kids are saying these days, but sadly, I have no idea what it means. Could you please provide a definition?
  • In consolation AA, I'm 26 and have no idea either. Might have to check urbandictionary for this one...

He was a guy who would do searches of the newsgroups for any reference of his name, and then respond to the thread.

So in my post, I was alluding to the fact that people would normally search their own names and not other people..

LOL, just to clear my name, I wasn't actually searching his name...I was reading through some posts on 2+2 and came across it by chance.  Thanks for the clarification.

    Derek
  • Thank-you for the definition.  This James "Kibo" dude sounds like one interesting character.

I have, in fact, googled my own name.  It's surprising what one 6th place WSOP finish will do to the number of pages that come up.  The vast majority of pages are ones with the same blurb: "fast becoming a face in front of the camera", etc. (a reference to the fact that I am usually operating one).  And somewhere, somebody at the WSOP got the idea that I'm a pro poker player, regardless of the fact that I didn't give anybody any indication of that on my 'bio' sheet, not to mention the fact that it simply isn't true.  Nevertheless, I am apparently a pro poker player.  Who knew.

And, if you look at the vast majority of these site's blurbs, I've only ever played in event #4 of the WSOP.  No other tournaments ever.

Jesus, am I complaining?  That last line sounded like Phil talking about how there's 5 hours of 'good Phil' and ten minutes of 'bad Phil', but you wouldn't know it if you watched ESPN.  Damn that media.  Damn them.
  • i believe the term for googling youre own name is "ego surfing"

i took a university course on web culture.... this was on the exam.... im serious
  • "ego surfing"???  Me???  No no no, I'm just paranoid!  And, "I'm only paranoid because everybody's out to get me".  ;)

That was really on a University exam?  Please tell me it was like a bonus question or something, at least.
  • it most certainly was
    as a multiple choice question
