Becoming a Dealer

Hey, I just realized that being a poker dealer would be a part-time job that I might actually like. I've around the net for a school or whatever, but I couldnt really find anything. Anyone know any place in the GTA or a reputable online course where I could get a certificate? Actually, now that I think about it, would I even need a course, or would a card room hire and then provide trainging?

I'd appreciate any info anyone can offer.

  • You would definately need a course. You wouldn't be trained in just poker, you would have to take Black Jack, Let It Ride, Spanish 21 etc. I know in Port Perry, directly outside is a training facility, but I've asked dealers @ Rama and they told me it was about a 6week course I believe. As for part time, I think it is possible but working like 10 hours a week may not work out. I would ask the Casino you are looking to work for, for more information about their dealers.
  • Plus you have to get licensed. And unless you live in Orillia or Port Perry or Niagra (etc.) you are on the road likely 2 hours round trip for each shift.

    Food for thought.
  • Yea I didnt mean one of those casinos, I was thinking the CNE casino for a summer job next year, a card room in the city, or something like that Hold'Em for Hire someone on the forum owns.
  • You would probably make the best money dealing at a well-run underground.

Thats the kind of place I wanna work at most.
  • how much do u make being a dealer an hour
  • I doubt anyone on the forum deals for underground. Best to look at the Finch Poker Club and Venom Underground. I think there are some along downtown Chinatown (Spadina, but no exact locations).

As for CNE, they hire anyone with a certificate. But then you have to ask yourself, do you want to work only 4 weeks a year? How long will it last as the training is probably in the $600 area.

    I can guarantee there's a couple.
  • finch poker no longer exists

pretty sure venom is extinct as well
  • CNE, they charge you about 100 to train, and 50 for your license, and you train and take the tests till your good enough to pass, it is not that hard but you have to be motivated to train for a few weeks and not get paid, but no it isnt 600$ lol

And yes, i have dealt for many undergrounds, you just need practice, and there is always a demand for dealers in undergrounds so jus' tell the person whose running it of your experience which may not be feasible because of your lack of experience

Anywayz, the CNE posts adds everywhere starting in april and there is no level of experience needed, half the people i trained with 4 years back didnt know ONE thing about poker or gambling.
