You know you wanna vote....

Hey guys, I know we've all read the newbie threads asking which poker book they should buy (I started one of those), but I was curious as to what you guys considered as the most important book. So, with the knowledge of all the books you have all read, if there was only one that you were allowed to read, which would it be? Also, if I've missed a book that you think is important feel free to post it below. (I know I have a lot of books on the list, but I've heard great things about all of these)

  • I personally like a book called Zen and Poker. I've been playing for a while so I pretty much new the ins and outs of the game. What this book is all about is controlling emotion, being patient and using aggresive tactics when needed. This book is not for all, but if you, like me have table control issues this is a good book to get you thinking.
  • zen and the art of poker is a nice one. How to fine tune YOURSELF, instead of the game. VERY VERY valuable, because we often lose sight of how we act/react to certain events.

SSH by ed miller is a must have. I'm a limit player and enjoyed it very much. not a "good read" (not funny or entertaining) but a killer book that deserves every hold'em players attention.
  • Where's Hellmuths book? :'(
  • Put those books in for you guys.
  • I just finished reading the first chapter of The Theory of Poker and I had to say that I am a reborn poker player. No longer will I verbally abuse someone when my top pair top kicker loses to a runner runner straight.

Hahaha, ok. I haven't read or heard anything about it. Well, I guess I'll leave it there in case SOMEONE likes it...
  • I have to be honest I can't vote because the only book I have read is Dave's. There is a reference list in the back of Dave's book (some are on this list) for other poker book's he suggests, some of which I will pick up, but I think that I will wait for this poll to end to see what the majority of forum members think about this list before I make my purchase.
  • I know I'm probably gonna get flamed, but I am a Phil Hellmuth fan and I love Play Poker Like the Pros and Hellmuth on Hold'em. My first book though is Gary Carson's, The Complete Book of Hold'em Poker.

    lol,yes you are.....FLAME ON!

Speaking about Phil, has anyone else heard about this tourney at Rama with Phil being there? what's the story on that?
  • The answer to this poll really does depend on what games you are trying to play. For the best one all around Theory of Poker is probably the best because its is effective and applies to everything.

It threw a tantrum when it did not see itself on the list, and it stormed out ranting that the other books didn't have a clue what they were talking about.
