I was there about 10 years ago. Extremely expensive and way overpriced.
Case in point #1-
Big sign at the front of the variety store inside the hotel "Miami Herald $1.00" the lineup to pay was about 8 people long, so I grabbed the paper, walked to the cash and plunked down my $1.00 and turned to leave. Buddy behind the counter starts yelling at me that I have short paid and I owe him another $3.00. I say "The sign says $1.00" He says "We aren't on the mainland, that's the mainland price, you have to pay $4.00" I asked why he would have a mainland sign in his island store and he kicked me out telling me to never come back.
Case in point #2-
My friend and I were in line at the coffee shop, she orders a large coffee and a muffin, the clerk says $3.50. She pays. I order a large coffee and a muffin (same order see?) the clerk says $5.75... I am dumbfounded.
Paradise Island is stunning, but the consistency of the vendors is extremely off base. They are a bunch of ripoff artists in my opinion.
I won a trip there on Maple Leaf score and win about 10 years ago...it was really nice, but it was expensive...a round of golf then was over 150$ US. I dunno about the age for the casino...it wasn't an issue. Did all right playing blackjack there too. Hope you're going to wait for the colder weather here to go though. We went on the coldest week of the year, and was it a relief.
