  • I've been playing poker longer than some people have probably been alive..... that said it's only been in the last few years the hold'em has been the game of choice. 7 card stud was the game before that. Superbowl sunday was a great pokerfest with dealers choice.... Chicago, high Chicago, stud, kings and little ones....LOL
  • Sadly, only a year and a half. I (rather embarassingly) have to admit that I was sucked in as part of the poker craze... and only be cause I thought the WPT shows were one hour; I never would have watched it on a whim had I known it was two!!

And I think I only really got interested because I had to find out what the hell blinds were. :)
  • I have been playing very seldom since I was about 8. Mostly for pennies against my brother and his friends playing Draw and 5 Card Stud. I have been only playing Hold Em for about 2 years, thanks to the TV coverage. I haven't been playing in regular games until this past year when I discovered this Forum and Bristol Street. It is amazing how much regular play has increased my abilities. Well, to the point of not sucking as much as before.
  • Probably 25-30 years. But most of that was crap. A lot of it still is. LOL.

I've been a serious "student" of the game for maybe a year or year and a half. I have learned much thanks to this forum and all the good books that are out there, as well as the ready availability of play on the internet now.

WSOP 2006 (along with 20,000 others) for sure!
  • I can say that I started learning holdem 12 years ago. I had played seriously before that (7 stud games and the 5 draw style games as well) but not as regularily. I managed to put myself through university with 10-20 hold em. That is my one shining accomplishment - until I have a kid.
  • Played at brantford over 2 years ago...
    Haven't stopped since :D
  • I'll freely and openly admit that I'm a bandwagon player, don't see what's wrong with that.  Played my first hold 'em game about 2 years ago at a friend's bbq.  I was seriously raped, it was classic, I was never a gambler.  Played draw poker once in a blue moon for pennies and never liked it.  I'd go to casinos with friends to hang out or just to watch, it just seemed like giving money away.  I'd play quarter slots just to pass the time knowing I'd most likely lose.

Played hold 'em again this past December (I believe Rounders is what prompted me to play) with a bunch of friends and made it to 3rd in a 12 person tourny.  That's when it pretty much started.  Bought Super System 2 soon after, dominated my home game and the addiction began.  I was always a math geek so learning the math part of the game is what really got me interested.  And making cash of course.
  • Ah I remember my first poker experience about 7 years ago like it was yesterday.

Waited about 1.5 hours at the CNE (then I think there may of been 4 or 5 tables) sat down with $300. I figured I was good, I had read one of those "how to win at casino games" books that has about 15 games and 3 pages for each game.

Well I lost the $300 in less than half the time I waited, called everything and played every hand.

I didn't go back to a casino and play poker until the cne came around the next year, I studied proper books, played on my computer and learned the game the best I could.

Now I go to The CNE every year and watch for players in there first year that look just like I did.

    They'll learn
  • I've been playing since January, but since I spend an immense amount of time playing online (I'm on my summer vacation from school and I have no job), I guessing I have over a year of regualr experience.
  • I started playing in Quebec, on a language exchange program funded by *your* tax dollars - thank you! I bought 100 plastic poker chips at Zellers and started playing hold'em with some friend there. They showed me how. I lost almost every game, but it didn't matter because i was hooked. Then I started reading about strategy online at pokertips.org. Then i found this forum. then I found twoplustwo.com. Then *made* me go out and get ed millers now-famous book. It revolutionized poker for me. Now I'm struggling with a bit of a downswing from party poker.

That's when it pretty much started.  Bought Super System 2 soon after, dominated my home game and the addiction began.
You dominated the game? How? Was it the NL hold'em section that did the trick, or were the other games in SS2 of value to you? I haven't read SS1 or SS2 but I have an amazon.com G.C. that I want to spend on something.............................
