Old Casino Niagara

I read on the website that they use a variation called Niagara poker or somethin...

Do they have a normal NL hold em?

How long are the wait times on a weeknight VS a weekend?

Comments

  • Niagara holdem is their variation of poker against the house. i don't know, just heard about it. Its a -EV game.
  • they got a poker "area" I guess you could call it, it's probably the nicest part of the Casino, on the Canada Long weekend they had 1/2 NL and 2/5 NL, I played about an hour, there was a lot of very loose players $100's flying back and forth, went up about $150 then had to go
  • Was there a wait to get on the table?
  • niagra hold 'em is like let it ride but you play against other players with a big rake. Not worth it at all.

they have about 12 "real" tables. I was surprised as I went on Friday and Saturday and both times waited less than 10 minutes to get a seat. Played 3/6. They also have 2/4 and 4/8. There's usually 1 or 2 decent players but most of the time you'll find a bunch of fish.
  • I played 2-4 there a week ago. Can't stand it. The dealers are generally bad. The host was grumpy and hung up on me 3 times while I was trying to 2 new names on the list. Conversation went like this: What are the wait times like?
    ans. when are you coming?

    ok new tactic

    What tables are you spreading?
ans. what table would you like to play?

ok whatever. Are you running 2-4?
    ans. Name?

Notice how every "answer" is a question?

    Ok I give my name..and I'd also like to add...click - hang up #1

2nd try. I cut to the chase - I'd like to add xxxx to the 2-4 list.
    ans. Who?
    xxxx
ans. I can't hear you. Call back when you are in Niagara Falls.
    I'm in Niagara Falls.
    ans. I can't hear you - click - hang up #2.

3rd try. Please put xxxx on the 2-4 list.
    ans. Who?
    xxxx
an.s I can't hear you. Call back. - click - ooh I'm so mad now.

4th try. I finally get the second person on the list.

When we get there I discover the actual reasons. 1. the hostess is a moron. 2. the music is so loud you can't hear much. People have to practically shout to get their bets heard. Continuously throughout the night at least 3/10 people on the table have never played live poker before. Just the worst players imaginable. Quit after about 4 hours with a headache from the loud music and pockets heavy with chips.

Next day went to Seneca. Free booze or other drinks, great dealers, friendly staff, free Cardplayer magazines to read while you wait, good buffet at a good price. Even the waits aren't long. Unlike Niagara which is short staffed, does not run 24hrs/day and frequently opens their tables late, Seneca keeps lots of staff on hand. When the wait list got too long, in 5 minutes they opened a new table. All the dealers carry their own tip boxes so they work hard to do a good job and keep the players entertained. They don't comp the poker players but neither does Niagara. By free booze and other drinks anything went. People were ordering coffee with Bailey's, huge 16oz glasses of iced tea, one guy ordered cherry coke - I mean a coke filled with actual maraschino cherries, another guy asked for a glass of pineapple juice and they actually had it. One guy ordered a Crown and coke and the waitress actually bothered to tell the guy that they weren't comping Crown Royal anymore but he could have CC. Seneca spreads a much wider range of games including Omaha and Stud. Every day they run different tourneys - usually 2x a day plus satellites for their larger tourneys. Seneca is poker heaven, Niagara is poker hell.

The comps for the other table games and the slots are fairly generous. We brought two other players with us. One plays $10 BJ and the other $.25-$1 slots (mostly $.25). While we played poker for 6 hours, they earned enough for 4 dinner buffets. The next day they went back and in a couple of hours they earned enough for 2 lunch buffets and they figure they could have got us lunch as well but unfortunately we had to leave. :(

    Actually, they do at seneca.

Give your card to the brush, they'll record how long you were playing for.. And then at some point in the far future, they'll install the computer system to actually let you redeem those points..
    1. the hostess is a moron.
Actually, I just thought she was very new.. which it lands up she is..

Thats not really true.. the band plays on the 3rd floor and the sound bleeds down to the 2nd floor but it's a hundred times better than the borgata (which features a night club directly above the poker room.. BOOM BOOM BOOM all night)..

Anyway, I hated niagara too.. more because I felt it was the worst run poker room ever.. Empty tables on a friday/saturday night with lists of 30 players.. Biggest stakes 3/6.. Different Floors making contradictory rulings.. And dealers that pool tips <blech>.. Dealers that actively argued with the players and Dealers that had no idea what they were doing..

Never thought of that. How much farther is it to there? Is there a place where I can see tourney details?

How do you quote different sections instead of the entire thing?

Seneca doesn't comp poker players. I gave my card directly to the pit boss and it was refused.

It wasn't the band music at Niagara, it was the canned music being piped in from the speakers. The music isn't that loud but it is a quiet corner of the casino and the music dominates the conversation.

The hostess I ran into at Niagara was an old bitter woman who had no training in customer service.

I can't agree with you more about the dealers at Niagara. One dealer didn't do a complete orbit of the table after someone raised so not everyone had put in their bets before he raked all the chips together then started arguing with the players over who had put the proper bets in. What a mess.
  • Niagara is one of the worst run casinos PERIOD i've ever been in. Hell Carnival cruises runs a better casino on a ship than they do at Casino Niagara. But that might come from being asked to leave the casino after play Niagara Hold'em to kill time and correcting the dealer on an error (it was my pot but he decided to split it since we both had the same 2 pair, telling me my A kicker to his Q kicker didn't count cuz poker was a 5 card game). The pit boss come over and originally backed the dealer without even looking at the cards then corrected himself and told me to calm down or I would have to go. At which point I put on my jacket and looked and said you guys wouldn't be capable of being a waitress in vegas never mind doing your jobs. Last time I was at niagara..... oh well.... :):D
  • Well, that setlles it....... No Casino Niagara
  • Let me guess...the dealer was a short dorky looking older guy with dark hair and glasses?
  • That describes him Moose but probably about of others too.
  • If you say anything to him and he immediately gets defensive - it's the same guy. Brutal
