Pokerkid1215 is in the Degree Poker Tournament..
Ok here goes..
I entered in the registration online at DegreePokers site. To no avail, I do not get a reply back so I know that I am gonna have to do the walkup thing. So I do a shift switch with a fellow employee and I am off to Niagara with my friend Troy.
I left work on Sunday night and went out to Niagara from there. When arrive at the Old Casino Niagara after driving circles around it for 30 minutes (god I hate the roads out there). We go to the poker room there and all they have is 2/4, 3/6 and 1/2 NL, so I decide to play some 3/6 and by the end of the night I am -180 dollars. The players there are calling 9 and 12 cold with T3s. Give them sooted cards and they shall play We stay there until the room closes at 4am and grab a hotel at Travelodge on Lundys Lane for the low price of $80 ugh lol. We get some shut eye for approx 3 hrs and we are up and ready to go to the Fallsvue to enter the draw.
When we arrive at the Fallsvue at approximately 8:45am we wallk straight to the Coat Check area to see there is NO LINE. The girl tells us that 350 people are already in the draw (I like those odds). So we wait around until 10:15am. The draw starts and we are around the 50 mark for numbers drawn and they are all around us. Our numbers were 1814 (mine) and Troy's was 1817. Anyhow, we hear 1818, 1812, 1813, 1815, 1816 etc lol. We are going nuts and then I decide okay it's not possible and put my ID and all back in my wallet. They are down to last 2 ballots 99 and 100 ONLY 2 LEFT!!!! Then I hear it 1814, I cannot believe it!! They called my number on the 99th draw!! WOOT I was exstatic I go up to the counter to find out that my round is at 9:30pm that night. Keep in mind I work at the GBH and I have to report to work on the following day for 12 noon.
Anyhow, we pass the time playing 3/6 over at the old casino again and once again I do not get the oppurtunity to see the cash counter lol -100 dollars. So, while I am waiting around I go upstairs to FLOOR 2 for smoke as FLOOR 1 is non-smoking. I run in to a pal named "Worm" and we chat while I wait for my cannon friend to finish playing the 1/2 NL game. We then meet up with his two pals and I find out that his one pal is in the 1D tournament at the same time as I am. Troy finally rapes the table of $300 and we all decide to go to Hooters. We drinking a couple pitchers and eat some of the $9.99 ALL YOU CAN EAT WINGS (the suck) and then we return to the casino to play the tourney. When we arrive to the main entrance to the Avalon Ballroom we hear, "Sorry guys we are pushed back until 11:30!" We are thinking no way.. this is not going to be done until 5am at this rate and guess what!! ROUND 2 starts 5 hrs after that lol. If we survive and make it to ROUND 2 we are not going to get any sleep.
11:30ish and the tournament is about to start and all players take their seats, I am in seat 6 on table 22. I play super tight as I have a Very Agressive player 2 seats to my left. I steal a couple blinds with 4x big blind bets and have a minor chiplead. I cannot remember too much about the hands as I was running off of 3hrs sleep in 24hrs. I do remember my first allin was AKo (Bruce to commentator came over to announce it) I thought that was kinda cool. I am in MP, UTG calls and I go allin, they all lay down so I pick up a couple extra chips. A couple hands later, blinds are at 50-100 and I get AK again only this time they were suited. I raise it to 400 to go, and the Agressive Player 2 seats over makes it 1400 to go well that was over half of my chips. I read him for KK or AA and decide to lay it down face up. Sure enough he shows me QQ. I pat myself on the back. I check on my pal Byron and he is around the same as me.. Short stacked.. I get a hand an hour later QQ I raise allin and get called by a short stack with A5o and take it down. So now I am average stack again. A couple rounds go by and I cannot get a hand to play, the antes and blinds are eating away at me.
Finally, we are down to final 4 tables and I take seat 9 on table 16. I sit down and am feeling very confident as all the big stacks are on the table in front of me. I know I can dominate these guys. Then the table behind me breaks, my pal Byron takes the 5 seat with a chip stack of around 20k ugh! Although, I am happy to see that he has a very good shot of making round 2 without playing many hands and that is exactly what he did. The blinds are at 400-800 with 75 ante and I get KTd on the button, there is 1 caller in MP so I decide I am a short stack so I take a shot at it. Because I had a very TIGHT table image I thought I could pull it off. I raise it up to 1575 (not even a complete raise) and they all lay down PHEW!! I had to make a move there or I was not going to survive the next round.
Blinds are now 500-1000 and 100 ante. I get dealt 66 UTG I am thinking if I pass this hand and get nothing on the blinds I am going to have 2300 left and would not even be able to raise anyone out of the hand in the next round. So I do it... I raise all in 3900 (almost 4x BB) not a bad bet.. Then I hear it, Bryon my pal who has approx 27k in chips say, "Terry, I hate to do this to you, but I have to I re-reraise allin." Everyone mucks and we roll over our hands, I know he has AA. Sure, enough he rolls over AA and flop turn river is no help for me. My dream of making it to the Finals we shattered. He apologised to me 6 times before I actually left the room. I said, "Btron, you gotta call or raise that, this is poker pal, No Problem!" I know he felt bad because we were hanging out all day together, but I had the feeling for some reason they him and I were going to tango! Ah well, I am out of the tournament what can ya do. I ran in to brick wall I am telling myself. I decide to go up to the balcony and cheer Byron on and he does it!! He advances to ROUND 2 which is going to start in under 5hrs lol.
I go drag my pal Troy outta the poker room and we off home. I get home around 8:45am and sleep for 2 hrs, get up for work and it's off to the Geebs!! I hope I did not bore you guys with my story. Best of luck to all finalists!! It was fun though, I hope to see you in there next year
Here is a shot of my tag that now has a hole in it
