Why I hate Limit poker
So I made my first foray into real-money online poker, and figure I'd start off at the .50/$1 limit table.
The first hand I'm dealt I get pocket aces... I'm before the button, and I bet. half the table folds, half calls/raises. I reraise and everyone calls. The flop comes down, 6AQo, looking good for me. So I bet, and again, some call and some raise/reraise... I reraise to make it 4 bets before the turn and everyone is still in. The turn: 9. Still looking good for me, I bet again and the same pattern, we got 4 bets in before the river. The river: 7. Once again I bet, and the 4 bets are reached with all 5 players still in. The showdown: I lost to a guy holding a 58! Man I was pissed, only in Limit would a guy hold out hope for that! What are the odds of him hitting his straight on the turn/river??
So after that, I'm on tilt and can't win a thing... so no more limit for me. Maybe it was my table, but do people normally hold out to the end in limit? Sorry for the rant, just vexed at the loss hehe.

They will stay in to try and draw out on you.
They will draw out on you and you will be pissed!
Don't change your game when this happens or your style next time you get a good hand.
You should profit, as everyone preaches, over the long haul!!!!!
Don't berate players when they draw out on you.
Have something soft and squishy nearby to punch the living crap out of when they do draw out on you. (not your wife)
Keep good records, it is very reassuring to see your profit over time, particularly on the tough nights when it seems you just can't win.
Yep, people do stay in forever to hit their miracle draws ..... but that's OK because every time they don't hit, that's more money for you. Read Lee Jones book on LLHE (if you haven't already) and then go back to the table.
I was thinking the same thing
Wait until you play a SnG and no matter how much you bet they stay in and catch a miracle card.
Wake up man! There are bad beat stories to be read!
BTW, did anyone notice a limit holdem player making a significant and costly mistake in the OP? I did.

ROFLMAO
I moved up to the .50/1 limit, and started getting hammered. For some reason, this level is crazier then the one below it. It was a steady stream of losses, good cards after good cards. And "I think"1 I was playing well.
Luckily, in my limit jump, I also tried my hand at some 1/2 as well, and decided to skip the .50/1 limit all together. What i found funny was that you decided to start at .50/1 which is a feeling i have a lot of people might be doing, hence the crazyness. I like the loose players, but when you're sitting with 8 of them, its hard for even AA to develop into the Nuts hand. And it costs a lot to get to see as well.
Now I'm back to making money, at a similar rate as the .25/.50 in the 1/2 level. I just found it interesting you started at the .50/1 level.

lol, well everyone knows PokerStars is rigged....
nah, i won 3 tournaments, i just cant get ahead in the limit.
LMFAO
I felt the same way as the original poster when I first started playing limit but now I love it. Â Been playing the .25/.50 for the past couple weeks on stars to learn the game and making a decent profit. Â It's a different beast than NL. Â You no longer protect your big pairs, you value bet them for the times they win. Â Drawing is also more acceptable, especially when you're getting good odds on your bets. Â I'd never chase a gutshot in NL. Â But in limit, you can chase that gutshot when the pot is $3 and it's .25 to you. Â Easy call. Â I've been able to figure out my outs and odds in NL a lot quicker now that I've learned to do it in limit.
all 500K? or some 350K?
now 700KÂ
hehe if it were for 500K I wouldn't be posting here.. just $5 & $9 single table sng tournaments
Actually, usually chasing a gutshot in NL is often more suitable, since you may have the implied odds of taking his entire stack if you hit. While the example you give gives sufficient odds to chase, I'd be surprised how often this situation comes up (but I generally don't play .10-.25). I guess a 3 way capped pot pf and one bet on the flop would do it though...
