Big Tourney at Brantford?

Just got my lastest issue of CPP and noticed an add for almost a full week of poker tournaments at BCC. I don't have the magazine on me, but I believe it was in mid/late July with three tournaments.

Tues: $50+entryfee NL
Wed: $100+entryfee NL
Thurs-Sun $200+entryfee NL

Does anyone have any more information on this? Format/rebuys/etc/etc? Once I get the issue, I'll post more info from it.

  • I was there on Saturday to play in the freeroll for the Wednesday Poker Series and in addition to the cash, the prize for first included a free entry to what the pit called the "Fall Classic" I assume this is the tourney he meant, Second and third got free entry to the Wednesday event. The pit told me the tourney would be in September though, he said they were renting additional tables and setting them up in the old sports book area, where they have the two tables currently. He said the prize board would be in the $75,000 range. I will be there later this week and will ask for some more info.
  • Registration:  July 6 @ 8:30am

AND YOU CAN REGISTER OVER THE PHONE FOR ALL 3! (yes, this is a new feature they are finally incorporating)
  • Does that mean I can finally phone ahead when I leave London to get my name on the list. Brantford is currently the only casino I know of that won't allow this.
  • What is this freeroll that some people have mentioned at Brantford? Are there any details posted anywhere? Jeff..
  • Next Brantford Freeroll: Saturday, July 16, 9:00am

To qualify: Final Table (10) of each Wed. tourney
  • I can't justify playing in these casino tournies...all I've heard from players in them is that the structures suck.

I would much rather play a $200 or $500 tourny at one of the established undergrounds in the GTA with a decent structure for my money.

Is there any reason everyone gets so excited about these poorly run tournies? Maybe I'll change my mind and play one...

    Thanks

Well, I will not argue that the structure is something that can be worked on, but I guess you have to take into account that they (the casino) don't want the tourney to run for 7 hours...yesterday (at Brantford) lasted close to 5 hours, and I think that's pretty reasonable for a 50 man tourney.
One thing I found was that the level of play was mediocre at best early on, and the better players were able to take advantage of this.
I had a theory when approaching these casino tournies (Brantford and Rama, played each once now), which is that many players in the tournament would be regular limit players, and not know how to tailor their play towards the no-limit style.  Believe me, these players are exposed very quickly, and are generally ousted within the first hour...the other lucky ones build a bit of chips, then crash and burn as the blinds get higher.

So, do I have a preference to Casino or underground tourneys?  Other than the undergrounds being closer to home, I would say no. You can't beat the professional atmosphere of the Casino run tourney, with at least 3-5 TDs running things, and, at least for Brantford, which includes the freeroll seat if you finish in the top 10 and the $10 bounties, all for a max $105, you can't beat it.

Hell, I just love playing tournaments, and if your the same, then what's a few less starting chips gonna matter anyways?

True, but no donkeys playing in those ones. Or not many.
  • Does anyone have any more details about these? I seriously want to play in either the Tues or Wed event.

    You're kidding right?

The last $500 I played had just as many bad players as the low limit rebuys...calling all ins with KTo etc etc ... you know what i mean
  • Serious? Dam, and I thought underground players were more HARDCORE!
  • Tilter wrote:

Nah I'd just say more hardcore gamblers. Doesn't mean they are good gamblers.
  • Anyone have the number for Brantford? I want to call their Pokerroom and get some details. Ie for registration over phone if anythign is required.
  • 1 888 694 6946

Ask them if they are allowing people to call in now to get on wait lists for the regular tables. Thanks.
  • I was there Thursday ...

Started to ask, and got a few details, but while talking to one of the supervisors, I got called for 10/20, and never made it back.

He did mention the final day is July 24th, and since that's the day we leave for vacation, I didn't listen too closely to the rest of the details. I'm pretty sure he said the buy-in for the big event was $500.

I'll be back on either Wednesday or Friday, and will ask again then, unless someone finds out more definitive information before that.

  • Yep the buy in for the big event is $500.00 flat, no add on, no re-buys. They were originally going with a $250 buy in with rebuys and add on but decided to make it a one buy instead. There are two satelite tourneys the two days leading up to the main event, with the top 3, (I believe) getting seats in the main event
  • I just called Brantford (July 4th evening) to get more info...seems to contradict what the last two posts said...

    Buy in - $215
    Only 90 seats
Registration moved from Wednesday July 6th to Tuesday July 12th

    Can someone else confirm?

    Slacker
  • Ahhhhhhhhhh...the well-run casino event...now I get it :D
  • Slacker, the pit I talked to indicated that the original format was going to be a $200.00 plus $15.00, buy in with a re-buy and a add-on, but they decided to change it to a $500.00 flat fee. This was confirmed today when I was there, but the pit also said that he had heard both fee structures being talked about and wasn't sure what the final say will be. Last week they told me the registration was moved to the 6th, and today I was told it is now moved back to the 12th. The only constant I have heard so far is that there will be two "warm-up" tourneys on the two days before the main event, the first is a $50.00 buy in with unlimited re-buys to the first break and then one add-on, the second day is a $100.00 buy in with re-buys and add-on. Both will be limited to 100 participants.

The phone number to register will be useless as well as I was told today that the registration opens at 9:00 am on the 12th but you must be there in person, you cannot register by phone until the 14th. So it will probably be sold out by then.

Of course all of this is has probably changed again in the time it took me to write this post. :D

    :D
  • Well as predicted the big event has changed again.

I was there last night and asked again, and was told that they were going back to the $200 +admin fee with re-buys and add-on. The registration is still on the 12th however. I did ask if they were registering all the events on the 12th and was told they were. This will be interesting to see, registering the $50 tourney, the $100 tourney, the $200 tourney and the last week of the weekly Wednesday series as well, all at the same time. Should make for some ridiculously long waits

I will be going back tonight so I will check and see if things have changed again or not.
  • So they are registering. But when are these tourneys taking place?!
  • Hey all

Just got off the phone with those crazy ppl at brantford, two smaller tournaments will be run on the tues and wed of next week. $50+15 and $100+15 respectively. The main one is on saturday 23rd of July, the buy in is 200+15. Registration starts tues 12th at 9 am, but bracelets are available at 7 am to ensure your spot in line. SO there you have it, all the truth i swear, call them if you don't believe me...lol

Good luck all and hopefully we'll see a forum member take this one home.

  • I'm hoping to get to Brantford by 12ish and get a spot in the $50 tourney.

    CALL FIRST!!!

If your not going to arrive until 12, you should make sure spots are still available...since it's the last tourney before Saturday's freeroll, registration will fill up quickly after 9am!
  • Hi All

Just back from Brantford, registered for all three tourneys.

The $200 event is actually taking place over 4 days, there is a session on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (21,22,23) one hundred players each day, from what I heard the top 30 each day will qualify for the final day on Sunday the 24th. Never asked if it will just be a 90 player final or if they will have some kind of raffle or the like to make it a 100 person final. They are currently only allowing players to register for one of the three qualifier days so that they can allow more players a chance to get in. All the tourneys start at 6:00 p.m. with the exception of the Saturday qualifiers and the Sunday finals, which start at 2:00 p.m.
  • Are there guaranteed prize pools for all of the tourneys? What is the cap for the two lower buy-ins?

I'm coming home to Brantford tomorrow mid-afternoon and will stop by there to register. Should I call right now in advance to reserve a spot?
  • YES, call right away, you'll probably only be able to get one of the 3 days for the $215, i doubt the other 2 smaller ones will be available
  • Jay wrote:

    Anything on this?
  • the tournys are all on their own, no guarenteed prize pool...but with teh multi-rebuy, expect the pool to be larger then you think...plus the casino is taking %5 of each prize pool to put towards a tourny in sept...
