Sad/funny bad beat story

Well this one is second hand so I don't have all the details but I will try to get the true feeling of the bad beat.

First a little back story. In our biweekly poker game I was crushing the game on a semi-regular basis. One night I caught a massive rush of cards and noticed some animosity toward me and my luck. So I decided to lose some money back to ease some of the hurt feelings( not a ton of money just 1-2 limit holdem). How did I intend to do this? By playing blind to the river and raising every chance I got. Turns out that wasn't such a good idea as the deck continued to run me over and I made even more money. Next week same thing nearly same results(I rivered quad queens blind). So the more this happened the funnier and sadder it got. I finally claimed that I had the "Luckiest Man in Poker" belt somewhat akin to WWE belts. The whole thing became a running joke. But someone took it to the next level this past week.

Three guys from our game decided to go to the casino and play poker. The nearest casino was a three hour drive across the border. So they get there and three games are being played 10-20 LHE
5-60 spread limit HE and 2-10 spread limit HE. Two of them sit at the 2-10 and start playing. As time goes by they are chatting up the table and the dealers when one starts to speak of the BELT. He tells all the players and dealers about playing blind to the river and winnings huge pots. The game is going along well and then one of the dealers basically tells him to put his money where his mouth is and play a hand blind. So he does UTG he raises 2 blind. Folds around to the other guy from our game who says "raise ten". Everyone else folds to our blind friend who immediately raises back ten. Back and forth, back and forth til one calls to make it 74 each preflop. Flop comes it goes check, check. The blind player then says you aren't getting off that easy and bets out at the turn other player calls. The river comes and the board is not suited or connected and the river has paired a three. Bet and call. Non-blind player quickly turns over AA and says "beat that!" Whereupon our blind player turns over a six, no pair. Down to the last card. Slowly turns the other one over..... THREE!!!!!!!!! The table erupts in laughter and astonishment and the loser can only wonder why oh why the poker gods decided to bless this player with the "BELT".

The moral of the story... I don't know maybe it is poker can be a cruel cruel game.

  • Playing blind can be a lot of fun. Escpecially when there is a lot of raising. I have been on the good end and the bad end of playing blind and it is always a good laugh. I usually do it when I am really short stacked at a tournament and have no other choice. It isn't the smartest play but it makes being busted out (when it does happen) a bit easier to take.

I don't play blind in cash games though, that kind of gambling isn't in me.
  • Great story PK, reminds me of several hands I've play with lamb_of_john....
