I am technologically inept.....however ok at poker.I need to buy a new laptop as I am going to be travellng alot more in the near future, with that being said I just use the computer for poker (although I need it to have at least 4 windows in the screen not overlapping) and watching the occasional DVD etc...I assume they are all woreless these days and would also like it to accept a satellite card as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I'm relatively technologically inept too, but I believe that for this:
(although I need it to have at least 4 windows in the screen not overlapping)

you need a monitor that is capable of a 1600x1200 resolution. This is due to the fact that almost all online poker sites use poker table displays that are non-resizable 800x600 windows.

  • On my Dell Inspiron 5160 I can get 4 Pstars windows up with some over lapping (not so much that I cannot play that way should I want to)... that is on a 15" XVGA screen... from the sounds of it you would like a 17" XVGA screen.

More the question what is the price range you are willing to pay. Large Screen laptop will cost you signifiicantly more money.
  • Than k you ScottyZ..i had went out and bought one and just tried it out....I was very specific with he salesman and told him my purposes and I MUST have the 4 screens fit....lol.....well of course it doesn't work and on my way to return it.I have heard that the Toshiba satellite series p70/30 would fit the resolution needed, does anyone know this for a fact....I am sure there are many notebook users out there right now, what do you use? And does it work without any overlapping?
  • Laptop screens with enough resolution to display 1600x1200 are called UXGA....

    Dell even has one.... Link
  • I have the Toshiba Qosmio 15 inch laptop. It's pricey and the screens do overlap but it's a nice machine. I like recording poker broadcasts on it in Media Center.
  • Acer has some inexpensive laptops that have had really good reviews, they have some with wide screen (15.4"), to handle the 1600x1200 you'll need what they call WSXGA, the model below will handle a resolution of 1680x1050. It's the Travelmate 8100. Not sure of the price but you should find it between $2600 and 2900 depending on the amount of memory you want, unfortunately for that kind of display you are going to pay....hey, that rhymed???
