If someone looks at me with a look that says you-have-a-gambling-problem then i just explain how i play for the excitement and fun (which I do) but winning money doesnt hurt. But I mostly just enjoy the game.
Definitely the money doesn't hurt. But I've found it great because you meet new people and you always have something to do with your buddies...it's all about fun and entertainment
Yeah, it's good common ground when meeting people so you have something to talk about. I find it really good thing to do with the guys, just chill and lose a little money.
It about being able to hang with my friends once a week and to catch up. Plus I love the psychology, math, and concentration involved. And winning is a plus too
I play because I enjoy it a lot. Money or not. Most of my playing is online freerolls. Some lower dollar entry tourneys too, just for added playing time. Plus the B+M local casino NL tourney once a month, when I can make it.
I play because it's a lot of fun to play with the guys or online or wherever. And like ice said, I enjoy the mathematics and psychology involved in the game. Also, the money drives me to play. I make money more often than I lost any wherever/whenever I play. And I just plain love the game.
For me it's probably a combination of making money and having fun at the same time. To me poker is unique in this sense.
I don't mind doing something entertaining if I have to pay for it. I also don't mind doing something which I wouldn't describe so much as "fun" if I will make money doing it. For a winning poker player, you get to do both.
To be honest, I bet I wouldn't have ended up playing poker *nearly* as much if I wasn't a long term winner. If I was a long term loser at the stakes I play, I would probably end up choosing to do something much less expensive. (Unless I thought I could realisticaly improve my game to such a level that I was a winning player, and if I really wanted to do this.)
The hard part might be learning to be a winning player. I've heard a lot of people say that they do not wish to learn about poker since this is not fun for them. I'm lucky becuase I consider both playing poker and learning about poker enjoyable.
The hard part might also be playing like a winning player. I've heard a lot of low limit players say that they find it boring to fold more than 70% of their hands pre-flop.
The main thing I like about poker is that it's a challenging and fun game that can be played on many different levels: different levels of complexity, different levels of skill, different financial levels, different levels of style. I like the fact that I think I am good at it. I like the fact that I frequently find out that I am not nearly as good as I think I am, and that I can continue to improve.
I play poker for the enjoyment of it. This is actually one of the things I am good at. I also use it for spare money because during the year I am studying for University and have no time for work. So this is a great way to enjoy myself and make money at the same time!
honestly i started playing poker cuz of rounders the movie.. and i know a lot of poker players started as well from taht movie.. it was just a more fun way of earning money .. and i am glad of it too.. so far i have been able to fund my university summer school courses on poker profits.. and its great recreation..
I started to play for fun but took it a little more serious when I went out with the boyz one night to a tourney at a bar and ended up Third place out of 60 people ! Not bad for a girl's first time !
Although Gonzo has yet to invite me back out with him hahahaaa
I now fully understand and support G's new found love for the game !
I was reffering to GONZO'S comment below

This all sounds eerily familiar lol... Welcome to the forum!
i love gambling, but not all gambling, just gambling that i have some control over, like betting on sports and poker. it feels great to get lucky, but along with that i get to pat myself on the back for getting myself into that situation. its brilliant to learn about poker, analyze things and just make myself luckier and luckier. i love seeing my results improve when i feel i've done something different... oh yeah and of course i also love winning money
Comments
lol i hear ya
show me the money!
I am very competetive so I love playing with the boys and throwing a little action each others way.
Besides as long as we are winning, why is it a gambling problem? Why not just gambling?
I've never spent as much time with all guys??? (a little disturbing actually)
Except that time I play strip poker with Shana Hiat......
...... She beat the pants off me!
lol

I love the smell of pocket Aces in the morning.

Also a good way of entertainment because in my house games, $5 can last 6 hours and you can smack talk everyone and have a great time!
Do you mean you play so that you can draw dead?
