How to keep focused during on line play

OK everyone I know I can play poker and play very effectively live. but how the hell do you keep focused during on line play. I end up cooking supper doing dishes anything but staying focused. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

    I spend time between hands surfing this forum for threads which are posted in "General Poker Chat" that would have fit much better into another forum section, and finding creative ways to deal with this particular forum moderation issue.

    easy AcidJoe.....open tables....and plenty of them!!!

    get yourself a second monitor so you can have 4 to 8 tables per monitor lol!

    seriously tho, I find with 3 tables open at once it keeps you hopping pretty good, the play is just too slow with only one table open.

    I usually play with a couple of chips when in front of my computer. Keeps me in the game or at least thinking about the game.

    Music can help (some people cant focus with music)

    I put old movies in the background so theres something going on around me. I hate a quiet room.

    But i only put movies ive seen too often so i dont need to look at it. Krull and Willow are my favorite.

    In tourneys: Music - play favorite CD over and over and over again....
    Rings: Will open a couple tables or do laundry or clean the room etc. in between hands

    I always keep the hand summaries open in largest view and review them quickly if I've left
    the room to see if anything unusual or 'usual' happened...i.e. same guy aggressively attacking the pot
    or a rock finally making a move and who responded, etc.

    Glad you mentioned that. I used to do that too, but I have gotten away from it. I'll think I'll go back to it.

    That is actually one of the big reasons I don't like playing online.

    It is impossible to keep focused on a screen the whole time. I have an attention span of maybe 90 minutes for that, which is not quite a long enough session for me. So I stopped.

    If you figure it out, please post and I may try again.

    Having two kids at home (6, 2) I can only play once they are asleep. I have noticed that when I play while they are awake I lose money. I can't stay focused for long enough. Personally I need to have it nice and quiet while playing. If I do lose focus I stop playing, but sometimes I forget that rule. It is a hard discipline. When I get tired at 2:00am and I start to lose money after doing well all night, there is a correlation.

    So my advice, much like Zithal's, is just quit playing. It's like golf. If you can't concentrate on a shot you'll duff, top, shank or hit it fat (unless you suck and then you do that anyway, much like poker).

    I fall asleep and wake up with 4 players left. Refreshed (but shortstacked) I turn on the agression and steal my way into the money.

    Nothing wrong with a little nap in the middle of a long tournament. :)

    I usually dedicate an hour to playing, any more than that and I start to loose my concentration. During that time I don't do anything else (ie. surf, answer the phone, etc.). I will re-evaluate after the hour has passed to see if I should continue playing. So far I usually end up quitting after one hour and there is a nice positive look to my bankroll. But then again I live alone w/ no kids or pets.  :D

    Well i have 3 cats, and one of them got me all-in during last week-end forum tourney.

    Jumped from window to computer desk while i was going to press fold. He made me raise 500 more to a 300 raise.

    Only add about 400 left add to go all in.

    Now i have 2 cats and one fine rugg.

    Seriously, if you want to focus play, in a closed room without phone.

    I found out that everytime i get the phone while playing my game get hurt. Specialy when the caller is bored and want to talk for a while.

    Funny! I do that too...with Sng...

    yeah when I come back drunk after a night out....

    the only problem is that I always wake up when the Sng is over...normally finishing 4th or 5th...playing sometimes the 1st or 2nd hand, most of the time no hand :D

    So if you see mee at your table at 4-5 in the morning...enjoy :fish:
