CasinoRama REPORT, May 23, $5-10

I usually never post about my trips to the casino, I used to go 2-3 times a week during March and April but the last time I went I bought in for $200 and built it to $900 playing 5-10, but I made a big mistake after I lost a couple hands and went down to $700 by going to the 10-20 table where I got ripped and eventually ended up losing all $900 plus $100 in my pocket.

I couldnt take staying away from poker so I built my bankroll to a measily $130 and I was supposed to give my friend $70 from my boss because he was working with me but I decided to take a chance and take it with me to the casino for a buy in of $200. So after a long hiatus I decided to return to the casino, and decided to start keeping records of my play, so it would be good to post how I did here.

I got there @ 7:00pm and finally got my seat @ 9:00pm

So first I buy in for $200 @ the 5-10 and I built it to $550 and than the table broke. The most notable hand would be when it was short-handed and I had pocket deuces, I flopped a set, played it fast and the dude kept raising me back, capped each round and on the river I get another deuce, this time I bet and he just calls and I show my quads

So than I decide to play 2-5 and just fool around with $100 before I go home @ 12am but I never won one hand. I switched tables and still never won one hand. I took the last $15 and went and played roulette putting it on number 15 and lost. The most notable hand was when I had pocket Aces and played it fast again, but dude stayed in with a pair of 5s, river is another 5, I'm first to act, I check, he bets, I fold my cards face up and he shows his 5

It's about 11pm so I still have 1 hour before my bus so I decide to eat with my $40 voucher and get a steak and mashed potatoes and 2 deserts , but the dude took so long to cook my shit and when I left the restaurant it was 12:30, my next bus was @ 4 so I go back to the poker room

Again I goto 5-10, buy in for $200 and build it to $670 by 4:00am. I was actually @ $870 but I got two bad beats in a row and it was very tought to leave after that but I did. The most notable hand was when I had J-10 diamons in late. Flop comes Q,K,10 with one diamond, dude in front me bets I raise, he re-raises, I call. Turn is a 10, dude bets, I raise until it gets capped. Now I played with this guy @ the other table and he is a very weak player, playing marginal hands very strongly and he looked to me that he was weak, well I knew he had a good hand but I knew he didnt have the straight, the river was a 5, it gets raised back and forth until he finally just calls and shows K,Q for two pair and I show my set of 10s.

So I goto my bus but apparently it only comes @ 4 on fridays and saturdays and my bus is supposed to come @ 6:00am. So I go back to 5-10, buy in for $200 and buy 6:00am I have $850. It really should have been $1000 but I got rivered the last hand to chop the pot. The table was short-handed, I had K-9 on the button and just call. Flop comes 9,7,2 guy in early bets, guy on my right calls, I raise, early calls, guy on my right calls. Turn is a 9, early bets, guy on my right calls, I raise, early guy re-raises dude on my right calls, I re-raise yah so it gets capped like that. I know the guy in early has a 9 and I'm out kicking him. River was a dreadful card, board pairs 7s, early bets, guy on my right folds, I show my K,9 he shows J,9 we split a big pot.

So @ the end of the day I was up $1270, I will probably be going back to the casino on thursday and I'll post the results

  • I used to play the $2-$5 game before but in reality it is total bingo, there is 7 people to each flop and anybody with 2 suited cards is chasing you to the river, so after the turn there is almost always a flush draw, my Aces got chopped with a dude that wouldn't let go of his 5, I highly discourage any novice-advanced player from playing this game

Why, exactly? So far you have only given us good reasons to play in a $2-$5 game.

  • because its bingo, like somebody said in another thread, you'll have aces and be outflopped by a guy holding 9,2 for two pairs, I'd rather have 1-4 fish than 7-9 fish @ my table, which is why I'd rather play the Rama $5-$10
  • 2-5 is a moneymaker game lol. I had like 10 consecutive sessions winning $100 or more ($200+ 4 times in a row). You just got to loosen your standards and go along for the ride. I remember there was a 4 straight to the Ace and me and this guy were able to cap the turn and river with 3 ppl in between. People won't drop their two pair and trips. And you got to make good reads. Betting down aces and then the board pairs top card (guy leads out) or the board 4 straights/flush and you cry call is just a bad play where I see tonnes of them do. Just got to know who you can bluff out and who are the call me down-ers.
  • but it's alot more difficult to read players when they play so lose and there is so many of them, you feel as though any card that comes off that can make a gutshot that was 3 bet to them is a scare card, not only that, they peel the turn and river with pockets, and peel for two pairs, i've made more money @ 2-5 than I have lost, but I think it's easier to lose all your chips @ 2-5 due to some cold-cards/bad-flops/bad-beats than @ higher limits, although that can happen @ any limit I think it can happen more frequent @ 2-5
  • I swear, if I hear one more person say that they can't beat a low limit because it's 'Bingo', I'm going to go into my "The Hulk" mode and bring back the old BBC_Z that everyone loved. '

Angry? You won't like me when I'm angry..

I read this 10 min. ago and had to come back cause I am still LMAO, my wife just called me a loser.LOL.
  • Back in the old charity casino days all the "10-20 players" would call 5-10 bingo and tell everyone that you can't win at that game.
  • I actually like people calling me with nothing to the end because last time they had pocket 2's and caught the 2 on the river. It can be frustrating as hell sometimes but it's better than having 1 or 2 guys call the flop and then fold when they don't hit anything.

I think for a change of pace I am going to play bingo and when I lose, complain that this stupid game is nothing but poker. (how's that for a terrible joke)
  • I have no problem with the 2-5. It is rare that I lose at that game. You just always have to bet for value, and remember how players play.

Once I was playing 2-5 and I was on the BB, I look down and have pocket Queens, 7 callers pre-flop until it comes to me, so I raise. All 7 callers call it. Flop comes Q, 7, 2 rainbow, the SB folded pre-flop, so I bet 6 callers. Turn 9. I bet and get 4 callers. River gives at K. Again I bet, 2 callers. Flip them over and the 2 callers both had K, low card. I take down a monster and pretty much make my night there.

The trick to 2-5 tight aggressive, with no fancy plays. You can’t bluff and usually the players at the table don’t bluff either.

Bring it on! I think the forum's been missing something lately. :)

On another note, is a $200 buyin really sufficient for $5-10? I mean, I usually buyin for min $200 at 2-5 (to ride out the storm of variance). I don't think I'd be comfortable sitting $5-10 without at least $400-$500 in front of me...

I want to see Scotty's Ninja trunck monkey again!
  • for me, i usually buy-in to 2-5 for $100 and 5-10 fro between $200-250, i think your buy-in depends on 2 things a) what style game u play and b) [as in my case] how much you are willing to lose in one session..just my 3 cents
  • 2-5 $120 - 20 red, 20 white. Makes it easy to track how much u are up or down. Plus easy to carry with or w/o a rack.

I can't understand why! I'd love to have 7-9 fish at my table :D
  • You have to LOVE games like that. I think that your problem is that you don't know when to let go of a big preflop hand. Players at these games are generally easy to put on a hand by their betting patterns. I sometimes play a 4 8 1/2kill that is exactly like the rama 2 5 you describe and hardly ever come out behind. You can't beat a 6 12 game with $400-$500 pots!!! :D
  • Hmm, I think I either need to alter my playing times or go elsewhere.

I swear, Brantford actually has good players sitting 5/10 or 10/20 with me all the time.

There's maybe 1-2 fish at the tables with complete junk, rest are seasoned pro's (note, I'm avoiding saying 'old' ;) )

A 'good' session for 5/10 for me is usually +200-300, I usually sit with around the same with the point that I'll leave when I double it (note, this NEVER happens lol)

    Ah well.
  • 20 red 20 white doesn't sound like enough whites to play at 2/5 rama i would think 10 red rest white would be better.

Er, so if I've got this straight - you borrowed $70 from your buddy without asking (a practice known as "stealing" in some circles) so you could just barely scrape together a decent buy-in to a game that's wildly above what your bankroll can support? I'm glad you had a good session, but it doesn't sound like you have a real firm grasp on the money management aspect of the game. I'll probably sound like an old woman for saying it, but gambling with other people's money is a sign of a real problem - you should seek counselling.
