Finally going to Casino - Couple of Questions
Finally going to make it to Niagara tonight or tomorrow night to play some cards.
Couple quick questions:
1. Is it still true that Casino Niagara has lower limits? I'm looking to play 1/2 NL and based on past posts this is only available at Niagara. Is this still accurate? (I'm only bringing $200 with me for my first time)
2. Where do I get chips from? Do I buy them beforehand or can I get them at the table?
3. Where is the poker room located at Niagara?
Thanks, I'm just trying not to look like a complete fish when I get there.

The casinos I've visited request you buy chips from the cage / cashier before seating. I believe it's etiquette to keep playing going.

1. Was there about three weeks ago on a Saturday night about 11:30, had two 1/2NL tables ($40 min and $100 max buy in), they also had limit tables ranging from 2/4 to 6/12.
2. You buy them from the cashier cage which is located right beside the poker room.
3. The poker room is on the second floor (one floor down from the main entrance) to the right of the escalator
Make sure you announce what you have when you flip your hand if you win a pot, don't rely on the dealer to see your hand and give you the pot. I saw the dealers almost muck the winning had 2 or 3 times because they didn't notice the straight or flush.
Enjoy
That doesn't sound very professional .... is that the norm in a casino?? I'm shocked!
They also have some weird rules, I was playing at a 2/4 limit table and bet 2, the next guy raised to 3 all in, the next guy to bet wanted to raise and put up 5 chips, he was told by the dealer that he could only raise to 4 as he had to complete the "partial raise" made by the all in player. The raiser and I both argued that it should be a raise to 5 and called over the suit and he said the same thing as the dealer, it was an incomplete raise and the next raise would be to 4 and not 5.
One other thing you should know is that the room is only open from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. I was playing there on the Saturday night and at 4:00 a.m. they announce last hand and closed the room even though there were about 5 full tables playing. The Pit crew said that they don't have enough dealers on the day shift to keep the room open, but the plan was to add more by mid summer.
If the 4am closing is a problem, just jump across the border to Casino Seneca.
You were correct.. The raise to 5 should have been allowed. From Robert's rules of poker...
"In limit play, an all-in wager of less than half a bet does not reopen the betting for any player who has already acted and is in the pot for all previous bets. A player facing less than half a bet may fold, call, or complete the wager. An all-in wager of a half a bet or more is treated as a full bet, and a player may fold, call, or make a full raise. (An example of a full raise is on a $20 betting round, raising a $15 all-in bet to $35)."
So, the all-in to 3 should have been treated as a full bet (since the raise of 1 was half a bet).
