WSOP looks to be on for this year

If you haven't heard, Binion's was recently bought by Harrah's and there was some question whether or not this year's WSOP would happen.

According to this article

http://www.pokerpages.com/press-releases/wsop2004-jan22update.htm

it seems like plans are on for the WSOP at Binion's (under the new Harrah's ownership) this year.

Comments

  • I heard that Harrah's is already planning to sell Binions.
  • It's possible, and it could have very well been the intention from the beginning. Harrah's perhaps saw Binion's in a desparate scenario, needing to sell itself (and its debt) immediately. So Harrah's may have tried to get a quick deal with Binion's before other buyers could step in. Now, Harrah's has the time to let the bidding war go ahead possibly re-sell at a higher price.

Plus, Harrah's probably doesn't mind holding on to Binions too.

  • When is the WSOP? Anyone from here going?
  • The WSOP is typically in late April and early May, but I'm not sure about this year due to the Binion's/Harrah's business.

I wasn't planning on going myself, but I'm never averse to considering suggestions for Vegas trips (WSOP or otherwise). :)

  • I will be playing the main event at the WSOP this year.

I have the $10K buy-in ready to go but I have taken a couple of other steps to lessen the blow of losing that much (gulp). I will be going a couple of days before it gets underway to try my hand in the super-satellites. Also, I have sold 35% of myself to friends/family at par.
  • Best of luck! I'm sure a lot of Canadians will be rooting for you, eh? :)

Is this your first time in the WSOP main event? Sounds like a great idea to try out a couple of tournaments when you get there to get warmed up.

  • It will be my first attempt at the WSOP Championship. Doing what I can to study and prepare. I will be playing in Cash Casino's (Calgary) Freezeout at the end of Feb, Regina in March, and then off to the WSOP!
