Regular Edmonton Tournements (Fort McMurray content)

Hello All,
I did a search but didn't turn anything up. Just curious in anyone has a list off all the regular tournies (weekly/monthly) in Edmonton? Or any non regular upcoming tournies. Casino or otherwise.
I live up in Fort MCMurray, and work shiftwork, so I kinda have to plan things out ahead of time, but plan on getting in a few overnight poker trips to Edmonton this summer.
Also, if anyone wants to split rides down to Edmonton, I drive a VW TDI, so gas is not an issue. I also have a place to stay about 5 minutes from the Yellowhead Casino, and might be able to offer a couch to someone.

Anyway, thanks in advance,
*mike*

  • Yellowhead - Mondays and Wednesdays $50 NL freezeout

Argyll - Saturdays $100 NL freezeout, Sundays $30+Rebuys NL

Palace - Tuesdays and Thursdays $30 NL freezeout

    Baccarat - Tuesday $50 NL freezeout, Wednesday $30+Rebuys Limit/NL, Saturday $10+Rebuys Limit/NL, Fridays $50+Rebuys NL
  • wow, that is good to hear...
probably full all the time though, maybe I can call in advance and pay for my seat!
roughly how many seats at most tournies (avg)?
  • I have played most of the Tuesday and Thursday $30 NL ones at the Palace casino this month. They are 66 players with the top 6 making the money. You need to sign up at least a day ahead of time as they are always full. I'm not sure if you can phone to rederve a seat. You start with T1000 and the blinds go up very quickly for the first few levels. (every 15 minutes)

I heard that they are switching to $40 next month with T1500 to start. (not sure if the blind structure is changing)

The quality of play is a real mixed bag, but there are many very loose players that call and chase to the river with very marginal hands. Unfortunately the blind structure makes it mostly a crapshhot and you need to get some cards early to have any real chance to make the final table. I did make one final table but was extremely short stacked and finished eighth.

I'd be interested in hearing about what others have to say about the tourneys at Baccarat and Yellowhead.

  • POKERKAI's post was mostly accurate. however,

The Baccarat 50$ freeze out is Monday. 3,000. blinds go up every 15 mins.
    25-25; 25-50; 50-75; 50-100; 100-200; 200-400 ... 77-99 players... takes approx 3hrs. Quick structure.

The Palace Tourneys are ridiculous structure. Like playing speed tourneys on Party!

One Monday per month, Yellowhead has a $200.00 freeze out.

Best Weekly events by far are the 110 Freeze out at Argyl at 3 PM saturday. $5000 starting chips. USually 44-66 players. Takes approx 5-6 hrs. Reasonable amount of play.

The Rebuy tourney alternates every sunday between yellowhead and argyl. There are a lot of chips in play in this tourney, and there is a lot of play once you get past maniacal rebuy period (1hr).

Tourney every day of the week! GL
  • wow guys, thanks for the good info!!!
I am gonna compare schedules right now!!
    whoooot!
    :D
  • Just had to brag. Played my 6th ever live tournament tonight and finished 4th out of 66 players in the end of month NL freezeout at the Palace. 4th place payed $255.50. I guess everyone has to start somewhere. It was a lot of fun. Next I have to sit down at the $3/$6 limit game going there. It looks VERY fishy to me.
  • The Edminites and others should plan a time where we can all go to the same tourney!
  • I play the saturday 3pm at Argyl and one or two others most weeks
  • $110 would be too rich for my blood, unless it was a major tourney. $30-$50.00 is more my speed. :s:
