CPT Championship in Regina

How many players will there be for the CPT Championship in July in Regina? Your guess?

I note that the televised CPT event in Edmonton jsut attracted 247 players to a $500 freezeout. Regina is  an $1100 freezeout.

I am curious how many players this forum thinks will start in Regina in July?

  • I gather they are hoping for 1000. That is very optimistic in my estimation. Granted more people will travel for the larger buy-in and you may attract a few from state-side, but 1000 is a lot.

I would put the number at 500-600.

I for one, who have played all of the $500 events cannot justify the higher buy in. I know other from here in Edmonton who are of the same view.

    Good luck to them though!

Ps. given that many people from here tend to fly to Regina (I do not) you can go to Vegas for a similar cost, and play a 500$ event or $1000 event there.

However, I hope they get the 1000 they hope for. I understand they are free rolling the top 25 on the CPT money list (according to the recent updates on the web site, so that is a nice touch for those who have made it).

  • My guess is 437.

  • Do I get all the jellybeans if I guess right?

The timing isn't great, what with the WSOP happening in July as well. I know they don't overlap, but still, a lot of folks will have just spent some big bucks in Vegas and they might go into hibernation mode for a while.

    372.
  • As an aside, does anyone have any info on the blind structure they'll be using? I'll consider playing if they slow things down a bit.
  • What is the date of the tournament?
  • July 27-30.

Three seperate first days. Remaining player meet on day four to finish the tournament.

I took this from the Canadianpokerplayer website where it discusses the tournament.

"All seat drawings will be random to ensure fairness and even the field for each qualifying day. The championship event boasts a blind structure where each round increases by less than 50% to allow maximum maneuvering of chips during play. Players busting out or those who couldn’t secure a seat can take advantage of 20 tables of side action that tip the scales at 100-200."

I, for one, hope this event does well. I think they will come close to their projected 1000 players.

What is up for grabs on this, Dave? I guess 945.
  • OK.... a contest...

Closest to the actual number wins a spanky Team Canuck Poker cap. It's really the only prize I have.

Under beats over in the event of a tie.
  • 512 trying to justify going myself so maybe 513
  • My guess is 527

Any word re: online satellites for this event?

Thats the only way I'll play this event. I'm hoping for it :D
    i'll guess 1000 lol
  • stpboy: I'll guess.....what'd he bid Bob?
Dave Scharf: He? Whom are you speaking about? My name is Dave! The bids are 437, 372 and 1000.
    stpboy: Can I bet $1?
Dave Scharf: No, this isn't the Pirce is Right. You can bet one though.
    stpboy: I bet 299
  • I guess 612
  • Too early to be out toilingin the fields yet, so lots of bored farmers. 675
  • I am playing for sure - unless something drastic changes with work in the next month.

My whole goal since April 1 has been to make my entry on line by July - as of right now I am at $440.00. Even if I do not make the $1,000.00 the remainder is coming out of my bankroll.

    My guess is 820.

Hope to see lots of you there.

  • I am going, but I think that they are going to be well short of their intended goal. I am a avid poker player, but more home games right now than casino. (Only place close by is the Emerald in Saskatoon, and I've been out of town working a lot lately). I have not heard very much advertising about it except here or if you go to certain online websites. You would think that with the popularity of Poker right now in SK that it would be advertised alot better. 3 months ago, poker chips were not even available in town. Now, every store has them and are selling like wildfire. Too bad we can't get some decent cards though!!!

My guess is 489. The buy in is a little steep for the newbies. Next year though, it will have a waiting list.

and I predict a top 10 finish for Dave. I know he has had some tough luck there latley.Me, my goal is in the money.
  • My sources tell me that the tournament structure has changed since itwas first announced. I have been told that instead of a 4 day MTT, players will be booked for the first day until full. The tourney will be a shootout format, having the winner from each table qualifying for the final day. Those that do not make it can re-enter for day 2 day forking over another $1000+100, or by winning a satellite. Apparently satellites will be running throughout. Same goes for day 3. Then on the final day, those players who have made it will play a MTT to declare the winner.

I will not be playing, as I have a limited bankroll, and I lost the local satellite. I hope to be there to watch, though. I have a 5% piece of our winner. I also want to meet as many forum members as I can. Putting faces to names would be awesome.
  • I have confirmed the format. I am told that it will be published shortly.

Three preliminary days. 10% of the field each day advances. Each preliminary day the players are divided into groups of four or five tables. They play within their group down to 10% of the field. If you do not advance on day one, you can enter day two and/or day three.

Final day is a standard multi table format with chips being carried over from each players preliminary day. Everyone on the final day is in the money.
  • I would love to go - am running through the logisitics in my head to see if it is worthwhile.

888 (my guess on the attendance)
  • I'm still waiting for the online Satelite events. I was hoping they would be going on for like a month or maybe like 4 weekends in a row, so I could maybe splurge like $200 ino it.
  • I will be going if I make it back from LA in time..going to play all three days if I have to...lol,anyways my guess for the event will be 600...200 for each day . I do hear that they are expecting a hard time to reach the goal of 1000 entrants.
  • My guess 601
  • I am going to bite the bullet and predict they hit their target of 1000.

Do your hats come in XL? I have a very large melon. :D
  • I'll gues 666.
  • This isn't a guess, and thus, am unsure of whether this will qualify for the prize. I know there will be 622 players.
  • I wont be going but I guess 1075 people
