Places To Play In Vegas

OK I'm going to Vegas on the 18th and was wondering if anybody has some suggestions on places to play limit and no-limit holdem?

  • Check out the B&M forum on 2+2, tons of great suggestions depending on what limits you want to play..

This has a fair number of reviews/info if you've got the time to read.
  • Having just got back from Vegas a couple weeks ago (first trip!), I'll throw in my 2 cents...

Disclaimer: I only played low limit games, so depending on what stakes you're looking for, none of this may be relevant.

Played at the Imperial Palace, Excalibur and MGM. Wanted to sit in at the Bellagio, but just couldn't find the time...

IP: Well, to be blunt, it's just a crappy, crappy room. Actually, it's not even a room, but a roped off hallway. Only offer 2-4, 3-6 and I think a 1-2 NL game min 40 max 100 buyin. The only pros of playing here are that the players are ridiculously bad and if you have a player card you get comped $3/hr (not bad for such low stakes).

Excalibur: Again only low limits offer a 1-3 and 2-6 spread limit game (which is a little weird but I thoroughly enjoyed it). Only one blind in the spread limit game too, so you can really sit back and wait for premium hands, and then raise the max and really punish bad players for limping. (I was amazed how someone could call a 3 dollar raise preflop after limping for a buck with only like 5 or 6 bucks in the pot). In for 1 in for 4 thinking at it's best! I found possibly the most polite dealers I've ever seen in a cardroom. Always a genuine "Thank you sir" even if you tipped them a lousy quarter. Auto-shufflers speeds the game along, and players are fairly horrid. I think they might have had a 1-2 NL game as well depending on interest. A little noisy as slots aren't that far off, but not overly bad (I don't mind a little chatter background noise)

MGM: Huge room (30-40 tables) with wide range of limits. Offered 2-4, 4-8, 5-10, 6-12, 10-20 at least for limit games (and higher I'm sure). They had a 1-2, 2-5 and 5-10 NL game going (dependant on interest). Also had some guy on a waiting list for 25-50 NL I believe. A little noisy, being situated near a few bars (the one beside it had bartenders dancing on the bar a la Coyote Ugly every hour). Tables were nice with drink holders and auto-shufflers (they also had a yellow chip commit line I believe). Players on average tended to be better here, but I imagine at the right time you could have a lot of the bar overflow stumble into a poker game loaded out of their minds (happened to me) :). You could even pay to get massages here while you played!

Anyways hope that is of some use to you, have fun on the trip! (I miss Vegas already)
  • my useless 2 cents...went to vegas last month for the first time and like ScoobyD played mostly low-limit except for a couple of small tourneys.
excalibur- all low limit games, really loose with different rules, 1-3 kitchen rules, dealers and people were really nice but game was more resemblant to craps.
bellagio- played a lot of 4-8 here, was only casino i saw any decent success at, nice room, but no tvs, every limit imaginable, hot coctail waitresses
also played at luxor, flamingo, mandalay bay (all average), and the mirage (better, but i was there in the wee hours of the morning so it wasnt too busy, ive heard its quite good though). may have played at other places but cant really remember, was drinking heavily for a good percentage of my trip :)
