what should I do?

Tournaments that i play in , i play good enough to be in the final 2-3 tables but i never get close to winning the whole thing. Usually i just get blinded out and end up going all in with a poor hand. Maybe i don’t take enough risks when i still have a nice chip stack.


I don't know what to do. I decided to stop playing online for a while. I'll still play free rolls, though. Maybe read another poker book. Maybe one by Skalinsky.

How do i improve my game at this point?

There was another article on that site that talked about "Always eat your vegetables".. it talked about how you can find bluffing uncomfortable (like eating vegetables as a kind) but has value.

You need to read up tournament poker playing...Tournament Poker For Advanced Players is a good read... You need to play tight early.. loosen up a little in middle rounds and beleive it or not play looser in later rounds especially if you are a big stack. That is my advice, take it if you like.. I find that playing too tight in middle rounds are what knock out really good players.. Remember this famous quote by none other than Daniel Negrenau... "You need to win your fair share of coin tosses to win the tournament"

Eventually you'll get tired of being blinded out of a tournament, and start to play a little more agressively as your stack dwindles. Once I hit the magical 10BB spot, I'll start taking a little more risks (Dave Scharf had a REALLY good atricle about this a week or two ago). Unless I'm close to a money jump where there's a significant payday on the line, my main goal is to make sure that I have a stack that can still be threatening.

With a stack that's small (7-10BB) but not micro (<3BB), you're still getting fold equity on pre-flop pushes.

I think that you need to reach out for the roses as ciaffone says. In other words reach out for the dead money much more often. In tournaments I will usually try this whenever the antes and blinds are at least a 10% increase to my stack, 20% even better. When the dead money is that high i will open raise at every opportunity.
