The Big Apple

How about a summary of your trip?

Comments

  • Dave, is that too personal? Or did you just not hit any card games?
  • I did not play any cards. I took my father as a celebration of his 75th birthday. We saw the John Pizzarelli Quartet at Birdland, the Charles Mingus Band at the Iridium, and a one man Off Broadway show called "Monk" which was a biogrpahy of Thelonius Sphere Monk told in first person. It was a great trip.

    Other observations...

Wow... Manhattan is a VERY crowded place.
NY cabbies should be hired to fly fighter aircraft. They are very capable of assessing multiple threats quickly and making quick decisions.
The "new" secruity is a load of crap. If terrorists want to wreak havoc in New York it will be easy (same is true anywhere). Among other things, I got all the way to New York and was on my way home before anyone noticed that my passport was expired.
NY has A LOT to choose from.
Even the art galleries are PACKED. MOMA was a dissapointment because there were so many people it was hard to relax and enjoy the photographs (another shared passion with my father).
There are no back alleys. That made it hard to figure out where all the rapes and murders are taking place.
The garbage removal system was hard to figure out.
There are A LOT of police officers. And, A LOT of them are a little on the hefty side of the scale. I am pretty sure I could win a foot race against your average NYPD constable.
La Guardia needs to figure out a better system to load cabs.
You can recognize the tourists, because they are staring UP. The locals don't look up. Only the tourists do.
Car horns have a lot of different uses.
