Anyone heard anything interesting about the new poker video game, Stacked ...... Daniel N's game due out in the summer. I've read a couple of launch releases....... sounds like it could be fun.
IIRC, this game's AI is to be based on Poki algorithm(s) from the University of Alberta. So, if the implementation of the U of A bot(s) is sound, this game should provide decent level of play.
Is this going to be a good poker learing tool? Possibly, and probably more useful the less experience you have. It depends on how well the following are accomplished:
1. Quality and nature of in-game tutoring/analysis (if any)
1.5. Quality of post-game tutoring/analysis (if any)
2. Quality of opponents in online play (Is there any incentive for your opponents to play well?)
2.5. Quality of opponent AI for offline play (A Poki-based AI engine should be good)
3. Meaning/significance of the poker game to the player (Is there any incentive for you to play well?)
The recent "World Poker Championship" was a dismal failure in all of these respects.
The best (in my opinion) software simulation poker learning tool out there right now is Poki's Poker Academy, followed by the Wilson's products which are also good.
In my opinion, no software simulation comes anywhere close to the best way to learn poker.
what about 2K sports World Poker Tour 2k6, seems like they are going to make this a yearly game, i haven't seen anything about it, but it was announced at e3 as part of their new sports lineup

then I picture myself playing it.."yay, I'm playing this cool video game"
Then it hits me....I'm not making any money. So I turn it off and open UB/Pstars.
lol......... good point. But do you think it would be a good training tool ..... like say, Wilson Turbo is supposed to be.
I'm not kidding anyone here, I'll still buy it regardless.
