  • Ouch that last hand for the AK guy.... guess that's what can happen if you slowplay two pair. Nicely done sloth!

Now go fix your site so I can order some schwag!
  • very nice Sloth! very nice!
  • Oh -- TX checking the turn there -- very ugly!

Way to go Sloth! You can ship it across the table to me this Friday... :)
  • I really like two of your plays in particular which may look strange at first:

    1. Checking the river on the hand where you flopped a low flush.

It's a nice first position check to try to induce a desparation bluff from a hand that would never call if you bet. (I'm assuming you're willing to call a very large bet here.) Or, it's a nice way to save money on the (remote) chance your opponent is actually slowplaying the nuts. By checking here and feigning weekness, *if* your opponent is making a value river bet, he will probably keep it small hoping to squeeze a call out of you.

    2. Calling with an underpair 66 on the flop AK9

Your opponent simply bets too little here on the flop with top two, and you really make him pay dearly for that mistake.

The actual implied odds you ended up getting tell the whole story here. The way the hand turned out, you called $7 to win $102.

  • Good stuff.

The first hand looked scary since there were three hearts for a flush or a possible straight that could've beat your set. Catching your 6 on the river was very lucky, big slick must've been ticked off there but it was his fault for not betting harder.
  • Wow, very lucky.
You played strong when there was a possible flush on the first hand, and on the last hand you really fished it out for the river.

    Very very VERY crazy.

you're kidding, right? Look at how he was betting! $7 bets with top 2 pair into a growing pot (ie not betting enough) not to mention checking the turn.
  • flopping set over set twice that quick is very nice, i have played a lot and dont recall hitting that.
i guess scotty is correct in checking the river with the flopped flush. although it is quite clear your hand is the winner, him holding Ace hi wont get you a call on any bet. i think i would bet the river if i was him, instead of conceding the pot.
    nice run there sloth.
  • hmmmmmmm.
    i missed the 4th hand there river a 6.
explain the flat call there after spiking.
did you really feel that bad or what?
  • Wow the first hand is very very lucky. The board is QJ98 with three hearts and the guy comes out for serious money putting you all-in. I guess you read him for a bluff (which anything less than a straight really has to be). I would guess 80-90% of the time you are losing with this call on the turn. Having said that you might be getting close to proper odds to chase -- I can't recall preflop raising, but on the flop there is $150 in there so figure the pot to be $200. He puts you all-in for $130 roughly so it is $130:330 or close to 3:1. Factoring in the bluff a call might be right here.

I like the call with 66 on the flop (very small $7 bet) trying to make a hand to win a big pot. But here is why I don't like it ... The guy raises $7 preflop and the board comes AKx. Then he only bets $7 ... personally to mean this means one of two things (a) he has a major hand or (b) he has a hand he wants to take a quick shot with -- something like QQ/JJ.

Now if you get lucky and catch your 6 in general you are not going to get anything in the (b) situaiton. In the (a) situation if he has a major hand he has either AA/KK/AK. Only one of those hands you (realistically) drawing live to (AK). So yes you are calling a small bet on the flop trying to get lucky to win a major pot, but I think in general you are going to lose a lot more than you will win when you do get lucky and hit that 6.

Having said all of that, it is quite brutal the guy played it on the turn ...he clearly should have come out with a bet somewhere in the $30-40 range which 66 can not possibly call. Very bad play.

Nice run of cards though! I can't recall a situation where I have made set over set on someone either ... You always win lots of cake in those situations. :)
  • I think you have to push in the first hand, with that action, odds are you're behind, but i think yu push for these reasons:

    1) you may get a small flush or straight to fold
    2) even if a made hand(flush, straight) is live you still have a lot of outs
and i don't think you can fold top set here, so better to push and put
real pressure on the guy behind you(the guy who opened) and put
    some pressure on the raiser.

I also hate the call with 66, you have to know you're drawing at 2 outs here? no money in the pot, dead to 2 outs.. I don't see why you'd call here..

    anyways, just my 2 cents

Agreed. This struck me as far too cautious. I can't imagine a typical player having a hand that beats you after he makes a wiener bet like that on the flop.

Did you have some kind of read on this player's style that made you think he might actually have a monster hand here?
