Sat, Apr 30, take on Dave Scharf and Team Canuck

I know Dave has mentioned this tournament a couple of times already, but I think it's worth announcing it in its own thread too.

The full details are found here:

http://www.canadianpoker.com/Team-Canuck/TCPTourney.htm

Dave Scharf & Team Canuck (sans All_Aces unfortunately) will be holding a $10 + $1 tournament this Saturday (Apr 30) at 9:00pm Eastern on Paradise Poker.

Paradise Poker will add money to the prize pool in two different ways.

1. They will place a $50 bounty on each Team Canuck member.
2. They will add $10 to the prize pool for every player entered.

This is pretty awesome of Paradise I think, and of course, it's very cool that Team Canuck has orgnaized such an event.

How about a compromise? Keep it the same day, but get an early start so it wraps up at around 6 or 7.

It's only reasonable. After all, you're supposed to be their so called "friend", right?

  • I agree with ScottyZ on the whole early in the day wedding thing. I could use the extra $50. :D
  • LOL, wish I could guys. I think it's going to be a great tournament, with bragging rights galore. And, the extra cash doesn't hurt...
  • Lots of places have WI-FI now ... wonder if the reception hall does ;)
Dinner, speaches, toasts, all boring, play cards on the laptop, get a nice pile of chips and then just blind off once the "real party" starts.
  • I think all_aces should post and fold. Give someone the fifty bucks for knocking hom out.

And... like me... sometimes I play better when I am out of the room.

Oddly enough, this is a +EV move for the tournament as a whole, and in fact all_aces could even charge a premium for doing this.

Assume 100 players. Each player could pay all_aces $0.20 to enter the tourney (and post & fold). This is a +EV bet for the avearge player ($0.20 to win an expected $0.50), and all_aces walks away with a cool $9 profit, almost enough to buy two whole speciality coffees from Starbucks. Smooth!

Of course, this amounts to nothing more than taking advantage of Paradise for adding money to the prize pool in the form of all_aces' bounty. Since they are already being very generous with the added money, this plan would seem to be killing the goose that was laying the golden eggs. :)

Why is such a bizzare strategy applicable here? Because the bounty on a player is much larger than his buy-in. Typical bounties are amounts which are a small portion of the buy-in.
And... like me... sometimes I play better when I am out of the room.

Okay, let's go with that. Ummm... can you go out of the room if you're involved in a hand with me please? ;)

  • Just waiting for funds to hit my Neteller account (going the slow/free way) and then I will sign up with Paradise Poker specifically for the Team Canuck Tourney. Before I create my account at Paradise, does anyone have an affiliate sponsorship bonus code that they want me to sign up under? I know some places offer referral bonuses so I might as well let you guys profit from me if I'm going to join anyway.

Let me know by return forum post or email me before Friday as that's when I'll probably set up the account.

If you don't think Paradise will be ticked off at this, I will gladly do so. Consider my $10 a gift to the prize pool. It will be interesting to see how many players enter the pot when I'm finally all-in...
  • Poker-melt,

Neither myself nor Team Canuck are affiliates. But, Paradise is very good to us and is the exclusive sponsor of my site. So, it looks good if you click on a Paradise banner on my site and sign up that way. I don't gain directly, but I gain in the PR value.
  • I will be there!

If I am in a hand against Dave and I appear to be taking a long time, I am certainly not going through the forum looking for posts made by Dave on how he handled certain situations.

I am really looking forward to this. I hope I am at your table Dave, or hopefully All_Aces posting and folding, but I would prefer an actual challenge. Or a butt kicking as it may be.
  • I was in the middle of signing up myself for this one, when suddenly it me.....Something else was happening on that day....what could it be????? No, it wasn't a wedding.....something MORE important.......

    TROUT SEASON OPENER!!!!!! :fish:

Sorry, guys, I've been playing poker all winter...I need to feel a different kind of exhileration and frustration. Next time.
  • It is my hope that this will become a monthly event on Paradise.
  • All signed up and ready for action. I'm G3-Melt on Paradise.
  • It is my hope that this will become a monthly event on Paradise.

    This is a horrible idea.

    Make it daily.

  • Great idea Scotty! After all, what are the odds that the same person would be invited to a wedding everyday. :D
  • Dave, why doesn't your cousin Ralph ever say anything in here?
  • Um, friend, not cousin.

I will mention it to him. Ralph is, however, a much more private person than I am.
  • Boys - pretty upset that I cannot play - will try and be in for the next one for sure. Not it is not a wedding - but a birthday.

    Goms
  • There will always be another birthday. There might not be another Team Canuck Poker tournament.

    Food for thought.
  • Quick questions Dave,

You are saying Paradise is doubling the prize pool. I suppose they will do that once the registration is closed?

If it's becomming a monthly event, will Paradise double the prize pool and pay a bounty for every team canuck member busted out every month?

Ok, maybe, I'm asking to much... :fish:
  • Sounds like fun. I'm going to try to be there.
  • I am hopeful that Paradise will ALWAYS double the prize pool and ALWAYS bounty "the team." All of this, of course, remains to be seen. But, I think we have a great relationship with Paradise and I think they are seeing some value in our association.

Oh yeah... I will send the winner a Team Canuck Poker hat and T-shirt.
  • Unfortunately, I'm hosting a poker night for my street. Perhaps, I'll duck in and catch you guys.

    Cheers

    bring a wireless laptop.

    i can just see it.
Minister: If anyone objects to this marriage, blah blah
and at the same time, AA is knocked out out tourney and yelps some unkind words :)
  • 64 players registered so far, and we're still 7 hours away from the tournament!  Very nice.  I just registered, and will be posting and folding my way to inevitable defeat.  Remember, when I'm forced all-in on a blind, it's a good idea to enter the pot.  Could someone please post the hh of my last hand, if possible?  I'm interested to see what effect the up-for-grabs bounty has on the action.

    GL all!
  • I just signed up at Paradise and got a 25% deposit bonus to boot! Used the link from cnpl.ca so that the referral bonus can be put to good use.

Can't wait for the tourney. Great idea, Dave. Thanks for taking one for the team All_Aces!
  • Right on Devin! I don't care what boxcard says about you, you are the man!
  • So who won this thing, and what were the payouts?
