opinion on flatter payout structures........

i was just wondering what people think of the idea of flatter payout structures. the frist tournament i've seen this in was the just completed WPT season 3 championship where they paid out the top 100 out of approximately 450 runners. This is a significantly higher payout percentage than usually seen in tourneys (9-11% of runners). what do people think of this? im honestly in favour of it, although i know many people are opposed to it.

  • in many ways the top prizes haven't diminished but the insanely deep fields filled with so much dead money, provide for the oppurtunity to give lots of people who entered a near break-even experience. In reality though for many if not most who may get there through an online satellite or live satellite, even a break-evenish payout of $30,000 for 100th spot in a $25,000 buy-in event is a huge payday.
  • I think 100/450 is way too many payouts -- I like to see roughly 10% of the field getting paid.
