Casino Rama $270+30 Tourney - Trip Report April 25/05

I just got a 1K tax return which is decent since I'm only a student. I think I will splurge the money that the government returned back to me on this tourney. I was wondering if anyones played. How did they feel about the structure (I havent been to Rama in a while so no info sheet). How did they think the play was?

Thanks

  • bump. I've been on a mini tear there and won $300 live, and had a good couple days winning $300 online. I think I may ante for this one. I think open spots for April 25th. but I think the competition will be pretty good for this price. Previous winner also won the $200+40 GBH (Alex A.)
  • Do you know how often they hold these tourneys? I went to their website but it does not give any details on the poker tournaments. Very weak..
  • I think they hold them every week.

Sigh up is starts on the Wed. before the tournament. They do this to come to the casino twice in one week.
  • Rama holds these $300 tourneys (77 players) twice a month. I believe that the top 3 in each also gets a $700 buy-in to the Rama Fall Classic (CPT event). Click on 'tournament rules' and it lists the dates there.

I haven't entered one yet, but I intend on playing at least one this spring. :D

    Twice a month.
Next one is April 25th, then May 16th (may be wrong, but if its on Monday, its right).
  • yeah its two a month, as forementioned, with top 3 getting buy-ins to the fall classic, which i believe will be one of the biggest canadian prize pools to date. they usually fill up quite quickly and sign-ups for tournaments usually start the wednesday after the justy completed tournament.
  • Well tournament started 12 pm today, I signed up @ 1015 (and it was booked 15 minutes later) phew.

Started with T2500. Some big pots I got involved were on 50/100:
I pick up 66 and smooth call, flop comes down 569 (2 hearts) and I bet out 300 (100 less than PS) and I get a caller. Turn comes an A and I decide to push all in for 1600 to push him out if hes on a draw. He thinks and call A7, river is a 5 and I am good. So I am up to T4500 ish.

I then get AA in MP and make a raise to 350, I get 3 callers. From comes down KK2 (check, check, I check, LP bets 225 <--I have been nice to him talking and such and rooting for him when he was all in, so I call this small bet). We check turn (2) and river (3) and he has A3 and I win. Now at about T6000 ish.

On the BB, I pick up T9c, and check to see the flop. Flop comes down T87 (1 club) so I got top pair and a nice draw, so I lead out 400 into a 500 pot. Guy to my left calls (he is 2nd chip stack after triping up with K5 vs KJ and 68 on K68 all in flop) and so does someone SB. Turn is J, so i made my hand, SB checks, I decide to let guy to my left make a play at the pot and he bets 1500, SB folds. I think, i'll either be chop chop I think or I scoop, so I reraise him all in (2500 ish more for him). He takes his time and makes the call with JT, and the river is a 9, so we chop chop. Would have been sitting nice with 10-11K ish.

I then raise a couple pots with AK, AJ, 44, and take em down. By the 100/200 level I get 88 in LP and have 4 limpers in front and decide to pop it up to 1K. I get a guy with a Pokerstars hat (seems like an online player - 40-50 ish year old guy) and he thinks and calls. Flop comes J34, he checks, and I think and just push it all in, and he folds AQh.

Table collaspe and we are down to 44. I get 22 in MP and make the call (400), and its folded around to SB who pushes all in for 700 more, and BB thinks (so i pick up my chips because I want him to fold so we can run the cards in peace). he folds I call and say, i hope we're racing. we are, he has KQ and flop comes down 2xx, and I am up to T9000 ish (MAX). I then pretty much go card dead until on 400/800 blinds I pick up 22, but its raised to 2000 by a pretty big stack (I would have called 1200 to take a flop) but instead LP goes all in for T3500 so I fold. Flop came down J23 and LP with AJ won :( (I could have been huge)!!

Next hand on SB I pick up 88 and there are 3 limpers and I was about to move in to pick up the pot, but not before LP pushes all in again for T7100 (which covered me at that point due to card dead and missed flops). I decide it would either be 50/50 or a dog (which I didn't think I was), as he seems hesistant playing marginal pps. So I decide to fold and take my chances later. I get moved again (table collapse) and then I get moved again (table collapse) and we are down to the final two tables. Huge stacks and little stacks (im probably bottom half. I'm put into the blinds on 600/1200 and pick up K3h on BB but not before MP raises to 4K (I have T6K) so i fold. Next hand, he raises it to T3600 and I look down to see QQ, so I push my T4800 stack hoping for the double up. no dice, he has KK and Kxx flop comes down and I am sent home.

Overall, you need to pick up pots at the beginning, make some agressive plays, and just hope to get lucky. I had a good run at the beginning but it trailed off in the end. I think the tournament was runned fairly smoothly, except I wasn't sure if they were pausing during the table collaspsing.
  • Oh yeah, I finished a dissapointing 19th, top 7 paid.
  • not a bad result, at least their tourneys arent lke the crap shoots they had last year. was the tourney capped at 66 ppl, cause thats what i heard they would be doing. i'll probably hit up one or two over the summer up there.
  • they capped it @ 77 and sell out like the last 20 seats 2 hours before the tourney starts.

I'll probably hit up another tourney this month because of the great run I have been on :)
