Rumor*****Great Blue Heron Poker Room Closing End of June

So I heard from a dealer that GBH is closing the poker room at the end of June.

They have already cut back the poker tables from 10 to 7 and have cancelled the rest of their monthly tournaments. I believe the last tournament was yesterday or in 2 more weeks.

Disappointed to see it go as it was close to home. In addition they just added NL to their games.

If they get Woodbine running sooner than later it would make up for it. Otherwise its a trip to Rama or Niagara for poker.

Comments

  • Adding NL killed the games that fast, or are they just wanting to get rid of poker for other reasons? If the former, I hate to say it, but moose was possibly right.
  • They make so much more money from table games like baccarat, blackjack and roulette. They make little money off poker.
  • Red Shores just hired a new Gaming Manager, and although I haven't met him yet I believe he used to work at GBH.

I'll ask and see if I can find out anything.
  • The guy that was the most recent poker tournament director did an amazing job. One of the only I have seen to consistently use and apply the TDR rules.

Woodbine or Niagara should grab this guy before he goes to the states.
  • Sadly, I can confirm that after the new operator Great Canadian Gaming (GCG) killed poker at Woodbine in January, it is also eliminating poker at GBH. :'(

Despite the many false rumours of live poker opening at Woodbine in January / last month / next month / August with 32 tables / next year, :bs: anti-poker GCG is not including it in the upcoming expansions.

Agreed. GBH poker and pit manager Jeff Pigott is my favourite and the best TD in Ontario. Hopefully he will be a poker executive if Ontario ever constructs a world-class poker venue that it deserves.

Woodbine does not need a TD as it will not have poker. Casino Niagara has finally hired a dedicated poker manager, and I saw him watching the new tournaments.

So why would someone from Scotland be posting this...... I sense spam coming..
  • Obviously they don't speak English in Scotland
  • I had the pleasure of meeting blondefish today at GBH in some 1/2 NL. Booked a quick $400 profit in 2 hours.

Managed to win my last official poker hand at GBH with my utg straddle.

Time to check the bucket list off of finally playing with a forum member.

I plan on being at Casino Niagara Saturday for more poker action.

Good luck buddy and congratulations on winning a seat for the bad beat jackpot tournament. I look forward to hearing your results.
  • It was a pleasure meeting you, payperview. Monday's final day of poker at GBH :'( is bittersweet as it has been the most HendonMob cashes for many Ontario players, such as forum alumni Popkorn and SteveKerr. For example, even though Popkorn stopped playing tournaments years ago, he is still #3 on the all-time money list at GBH for U$75,568 official winnings.

The prize pool for the final Bad Beat tournament is $135,444.81. The average EV for the seventy draw winners is $1,935. Here are the expected prize payouts:

    1st - $33,184
    2nd - $23,926
    3rd - $18,962
    4th - $13,544
    5th - $9,481
    6th - $8,127
    7th - $6,772
    8th - $5,418
    9th - $4,063
    10th - $2,709
    11th-15th: $1,354
    16th-20th: $677.
