Playground Poker Spring Classic and WPT Cdn Spring Championship

Hey gang,

The time has almost come for the Spring Classic!

Join us at Playground Poker Club in Kahnawake for the 2016 Playground Poker Spring Classic, presented by partypoker.net. The Spring Classic, now in its 4th year, features 17 events including the $3,200 + $300 WPT Canadian Spring Championship. Action gets underway April 17th and continues until May 5th.

This year's WPT Canadian Spring Championship is a $3,200 + $300 5-Day tournament with 3 Day 1s. For the second year in a row, the WPT Canadian Spring Championship is the first event of the new World Poker Tour Season. This will be the WPT Main Tour Season XV.

The Spring Classic will get underway with the legendary Wild $150 ($135 + $15 NL Hold'em Re-entry), with a $100,000 prize pool guarantee! Everything about The Wild $150 is managed exactly like a marquee, world-class event - except that with a buy-in of only $150, it's accessible to everyone.

Other highlights of the Spring Classic schedule:

  • The $250 Frenzy - $200K Guaranteed!
  • A WPT Canadian Spring Championship super satellite with a huge 20 Seat Guarantee!
  • A $500 + $100 + $500 50/50 Bounty Event - a bounty tournament on a HUGE scale!
  • A $500 + $50 PL Omaha Single Rebuy event.
  • The $1,650 Second Chance event, starting on May 3rd
  • A Women's Tournament and a Seniors' (50+) Tournament
  • 9 events with a buy-in of less than $300.

  • Hotels already booked. Anxiously waiting now. Should be fun.
  • Excellent!

Note that structure sheets for each event are linked from the main schedule page... including late reg rules and such.
  • Thanks.....the rake in the 50/50 bounty events seems to be really high, but that's a topic for another thread.

Are you guys still doing the shuttle? There's 4 of us (maybe 5) staying in longuiel (sp?) I think they said a one way cab ride from there before was $70+.
  • Tournament rake is almost always 10% of the total buy-in, which, in the case of the 50/50 Bounty, includes both the amount to the prize pool and the amount represented by a bounty chip. Very occasionally it's less, such as in the Spring WPT. Consistency, fairness, and predictability are, we believe, key issues with respect to tournament fees. The same principles apply to special events and daily events at Playground as well.

Every property has a different policy on this kind of thing, and this often includes charging less experienced players in low buy-in events proportionally much more - in some cases I've seen up to 20% plus withholding.

Note that when I quote the 10% that's the raw fee. We do take 3% of the gross prize pool for staff gratuity as well, as is the case with most other properties. We don't hide that withholding - it's written in every single rule and structure sheet and most of the posters and other promo material as well.

As far as a shuttle is concerned - that's generally something the sponsor decides on, and in the past they haven't been as well used as you might imagine, which opens up the question of whether it's a worthwhile endeavour. Unfortunately Uber doesn't serve this part of the South Shore - we would love it if they did!

One thing that may be useful is the Oxford Taxi service - that's the local taxi company and they will offer flat rates to various points - you can negotiate with them. They'll pick you up as well, though you might need to give them some warning in case they have to send a car from Chateauguay (the suburb nearby).
  • Are there satellites on Party at all?
  • Thanks for the response mikelbyl. And for the record, playground has always been the premiere place to play for me and as mentioned quite fair and very honest with all their MTT fees. Will look into that taxi service if need be.

Comp - party runs a Sunday $530 sat which (correct me if I'm wrong) offers a $4k USD wpt main package and spending money.

They also have $22 sats to the $109's and $109 sats into the $530's.
  • Unfortunately, its satellite system has become much worse than before. While lynx, actyper, Timex and I have won a lot of WPT packages there before, I haven't played its satellites since WPT UK in the fall. The LIVE casino satellites at WPT Playground, WPT Fallsview & WSOP Montreal are easier to win than online now.

  • PocketsTwos and I are also staying in Longueuil in a three-bedroom house. We will be forced to multi-table on the same day between Playground & Casino Montreal, so we will probably bring multiple cars instead of paying $70-$140 for a round-trip taxi just to play, unless either venue has a shuttle.

  • I may look Into renting a car. I'm getting a ride there from a friend but his intention is to just park the car once we arrive and leave it for the duration. Even the total rental would be less then a round trip taxi ride to playground.

We'll be staying at the sandman hotel. Best about that one is it's right across the street from the metro and just one station to the casino.

I tried registering for the mega satellite taking place on April 28th on playground.ca and my payment wouldn't go through...not sure why. Is it because it's sold out? I sent an e-mail 3 days ago but havent got a response yet. Any thoughts?
  • No, it's not sold out. With capacity for events what it is, people rarely buy tickets in advance. I say "capacity for events what it is" meaning that even though we publish a capacity number, we're always going to try and get everyone who wants to play in an event, and we almost always do.

The issue, rather, is likely to do with your credit card. Many issuing banks will not permit such transactions, and their error messages when they decline the transaction is generally such that it defies *our* ability to provide a lot of useful information about what happened.

I think I see an email in our system from you but there was a response sent to you on March 24th - are you sure you didn't receive it? The reply was signed by Jean-Sebastien, one of our Player Services reps. Please send me a Private message with your full name and I can check in more detail.
  • Yeah, most banks do not allow cc transactions with gambling sites and playground falls und this category. I couldn't process my cc payment last year for the same reason. That being said, some places like OLG Brantford will do it over the phone for you. Good luck, see you in Montreal!!

Ok, thanks Mike...yes, you're probably right. I never could get RBC to process any of my gambling endeavours now that I think about it. On Stars I use my CIBC card without any problems. I'll find a way to register...just wanted to get a head start on things. Thanks again! The e-mail that was sent probably went to my junk folder...i'll take a look.

Thanks Man! Hopefully you and I make it to the main instead of bubbling and see each other at the final table this time!
