Seneca Classic

Anyone going to this or planning on playing.

Gonna play the 11am 200 buyin game on friday morning and if not successful then probably the 6pm one also. Looks pretty good. Anyone got any first hand experience from it.

  • Not interested in going and cashing and still losing money! For one the exchange rate is horrible right now, and they tax 30% of any cash, no minimum. Therefore you could cash in the lower portion and end up losing money! Your call though! If you can I would strongly suggest going to Montreal for their tournaments this month!

Do you not get all the money eventually once you fill out a few forms when you get back. Can't make Montreal with time constraints but be at fallview in Feb though
  • You have to show your losses in order to get money back! Basically think of the withholding as taxes. you must show tax deductions in order to get some back! Chances are again if you are filing for a refund, you are way at a loss because that loss helps you get a return on the cash that you are already taking a loss on.

Anyways that is just my thoughts but if you go and win it, its worth it. Good luck if you do!

I am an irish citizen with residency in canada. We got an agreement with us on winnings for stuff like this so if needed I will try and use that. Thought Canada did also?
  • Your out of my zone of experience. I am not trying to talk you out of it, I would just hate for you to spend a bunch of time for a smaller cash and end up not making a dime. Look into it and let us know how you fair. Good luck though if you play!

Thanks for taking your time coming back to me about this. Looked into it online and you are correct. Honestly I love playing mtts and it's more for pleasure than money. Rate myself better than the average bear with them compared to cash. If I do win some good money I will get a buddy from home who does tax to see if I am good to claim it all. I might give my irish address when I register as I fear being in canada will theoretically void me from using the irish agreement we have with the U.S. If not I will play the 1k game if I make a big top3 finish to negate my taxed income or else make an unexpected trip to vegas to lose some money if I find out I can't claim my taxed money back😅. No point getting ahead of myself as that is a long way away.
  • I will treat it as another 40 in fees unless I win a nice bit of cash. I might do a mini trip report with live updates if it gets a bit interesting
  • That is the one great thing about the US games, you can use your phone at the table and live tweet out updates. If you go, and dont have twitter, you should sign up and post your handle here and I would follow you.
  • I have twitter but never use it. What is a handle. Sounds like a dumb question I presume.
  • A handle is another word for your name or your twitter name. How are you known on twitter.
  • Same as here. tommyombomb. I'll post early updates on that and if I do well I will post here. What's your name and I can follow you in montreal. Also all posts will have #giveherbally . Thing from home so gotta post it. (bally a place near us, give a good shot of it)
  • irunit4times lol same thing
  • Added you. I don't use it often but I will for the mtt. Hopefully we both make it far.
  • Good luck to you sir and I look forward to hearing about it.
  • Irunit4times is correct. Unless you have an Irish passport and Seneca accepts it as an exemption from the 30% tax, then Seneca is the worst possible place in the world to buy into a tournament. Irunit4times, PocketTwos and I will be driving this week to WPT Playground, which is my favourite tournament room in the entire world. My current plan is to drive to Pickering tomorrow morning and carpool with a friend.

  • if you really want to go to seneca, just play the cash games.

Nope, Seneca will still tax you, as they have no clue about any of this and just tax you on any winnings
  • And there you have it, one more reason not to go! U ready for montreal yet? Lol
  • Ha I wish. Won't make it until the Saturday now as working Friday. Another time. Just want to play a tournament. Been too long since I played one live. Best of luck
  • Well good luck to you, hopefully you bink it and make it somewhat worthwhile. Keep us posted.

You sure about that? I've cashed out there several times, and a couple of times over $2k, in cash game winnings there with no witholding tax.
  • No withholding in Cash games. Always withholding in tournament winnings
