Being asked about how much I play at a live event!

Last CPT Major event I was at inbetween rounds on more then one occassion I had guys coming up to me and asking about my experience playing online..

LOL

Well at the time I took it as compliments but then wondered how they picked up on me having more online then live experience..

I'm wondering if the structure of my bets is what gave me away.. I know online and off I tend to bet the same. If I play a hand it's usually to enter the hand with a raise of 2bb,3bb,4bbs.. Now I try to be random with the actual BB amount but with AA or 72o I could be raising 2bb's - 4bbs..

My concern is this:

Do you think this affects the way people will play against me in a positive or negative way?

P.S.
I also do a few chip tricks at the table. Does this make me a bad player? :D <--- Joke

I was joking around with some friends about the t-shirts we ordered with Party Poker points.

We suggested they offer the following sizes:

Large, XLarge, XXLarge, and Online Professional.

Might your weight be a possible tell?

That would make me fat, 5'5 1/2", 165 lbs. :frown:
  • Depends on the image you want to portray.

If it's obvious I'm not a casual playe and folks already notice me, then I generally say "Well, I'm guessing, but I've played around a half million hands in that past few years."

If they really haven't noticed me, then I say "I really don't know about that Internet poker -- I tried the play money tables but didn't like it that much".

Bascially, I want to reinforce whatever impression they have of me -- I want to make them feel smart -- like they know what to expect from me.

  • Oh, btw, the structure of the betting online is a very powerful weapon. I wouldn't alter your approach because you're live. It takes alot of discipline to be consistent and bet according to the blinds and stack sizes. Inconsistency will give you away more than consistency.

  • Not sure why but i remember this article by Daniel N. where be basicly in the middle of a hand asks a guy if he plays on the internet, after the guy went all-in on a flop.

Guy says yes, and he calls him instantly.

Basicly internet impulse to push on a paired board if you have a PP. Things like that, non-internet players are 'considered' to be more patient. If you say that you play online, make sure you also give some other reverse info. Like how you hate how tight players on the internet are, should confuse them for a bit.
  • My standard response is "I used to play in a weekly game in college". Sometimes I add in ".... back in the day".
