Oval or Octagon poker table for home?

I am interested in building a home poker table. Have looked at a number of sets of plans on the internet and have seen them primarily be an oval or octagon shape. If you guys were to get a home poker table would you go for an oval or octagon shape? What other design features would you deem essential? Thanks for you input

  • i like them oval ones :)
  • oval if you are going to have consistent tournaments with 8+ people and a dealer and such, if it is more casual game with only a few people for the most part then you might want to do the octagon cuz self dealing with an oval table can be a big pain in the ass. I personally have an oval table, but also an octagon table-top, I use the oval for tournaments and the octagon for games with just a few people.
  • if you have a big game with 8-10 or so people then go oval..

Octagon ones are great for smaller 6-8 games.. I personally like octagon tables for the better view of all at the table..
  • I built an oval table and I like it. It is roughly 4x6. Any longer and the players on the end can't pitch cards to the far end.

That being said, for home games I think the best is a 60-65" round table. If you have have fewer than 8 you can spread out a bit which is nice (octo's leave player 'spaces') and you can fit 10 if you need to for a tourney.
