Best Tourneys in a casino ever... better make room for another three rows of video fucking slots.
I agree....ultra low rake for the two table tournaments they have held every Saturday and Sunday afternoon (including holiday Mondays) for some time now.
I will miss these games and the often action packed cash games ever Friday and Saturday night.
I always thought the the room would be busier considering how close it was to everything west of Milton.
With the room gone, it will almost double my drive time to the next nearest room, Woodbine...and I guess I will be returning to the Falls once again to grind the slow dealing live tables.
Thanks to Raf, the poker room manager for all your work there at Mohawk. You listened to the players and implemented many changes....and without a doubt were the friendliest casino employee around.
:arghh: While Fallsview, Rama, GBH, Brantford, CNE, and Woodbine's electronic tables continue to be busy - with Rama, GBH and Fallsview tournaments usually selling out - it's disappointing that the Georgian Downs and Mohawk locations could not attract enough players.

+1. With so many forum and other players within driving distance of Halton, I thought it would get more support.
Maybe too many of the potential player base had the silly belief that these government-regulated and audited electronic tables were rigged, despite the low tournament and cash game rake.

This. Didn't know him by name but he was always a pleasure to deal with and a true poker fan.
I also heard at the casino yesterday, that olg is being bought out soon, and they didn't say who, but it looks like all OLG casinos may now become part of something like Caesers or the likes. If that is the case, the poker room, the electronic etc, may change for the better and be re-opened later.
Who knows! But Sad to hear that as I cashed my one and only time playing a tourney there!

Omg I pray that OLG is sold to Caesers. That would be awesome.

I think this has been in the works for awhile....some of the staff at Mohawk had mentioned this to me back in the summer.
It it would be great if they ran a poker room, electronic or with dealers (I prefer the later).
Oh I didn't know that it's been in the works for a while, but hopefully it comes through soon, would be awesome to have some casinos run by people who know what they are doing. Or so I am told!
Got a letter telling me how much I had on my card and to get it before Jan. 16/16
Went over, cashiers had not seen the letter, but no problem getting the money

The excellent 15,000-chip tournaments at Mohawk have continued past December and the final three tournaments will be this week before the poker room is replaced by slots machines after January 10. I was planning to play rake-free home games on Saturday and/or Sunday, but I'll try to play one final Mohawk tournament on Friday, January 8 at 4 PM.
BF, give HPT a try in Feb, rake free, $100. buyin, 40 players, no rebuys, everything paid out, great structure, well run. Would think you would eat it up...
I already grind at Fallsview for the WPT and 2/5 cash game, plus online, Rama, GBH, Brantford, etc. If HPT or other home games run a satellite to the WPT or WSOP Montreal, I'll take time out from the above to support it, just like I will continue to support Irunit4times' OAPL, SteveKerr's OPT, piranha's Georgetown Poker Club, and Jeff's The Dog House.
My suggestion to you is to try out the +EV $285+$15 Rama tournament when you have a free Monday. I may even be willing to buy up to 50% of your action, like pkrfce9, etc.
If I play in any additional live games, my family may file a missing person report tho.
Just a heads-up, the Friday tournament at Mohawk has never run, not even once. When I inquired about it in December they said they've only had 2 or 3 ppl even ask about it, including me. Definitely call ahead before making the trek for naught.
Yeah, Raf is awesome. Hopefully they'll move him to Woodbine to run that room, but I don't think that'll be possible in a bureaucracy like OLG.
The room is very conviently located for many of us, and will miss having it as an option this winter when the weather is too bad for a trip to Niagara or Brantford. I would have liked to play there more but the last several times I've gone there's either been no cash action or the tourney has sold out already. Also, electronic poker is rigged. I think i'll try and get to the last one on Sunday tho, for posterity's sake.
Not to fear tho, I'm currently in the process of getting ready to host some games only 15 minutes from Mohawk- cash and tournament i.e. cleaning out my basement.
I think Raf has been offered a different position with OLG Mohawk...something along the line of a VIP host. i wish him all the best...
I will ill be there for the last tournament on Sunday - registered some time ago for it. It is a shame they are closing the room there being that it is the closest room for players like me from K dub.
It will be grinding Niagara again for me in the near future as much as I hate the shitty service there from most of the staff. I don't see myself playing at woodbine on a regular basis. Also will be looking for more low rake league games such as OPT, Doghouse Poker Room, Ontario Aces, etc... What more can a poker player ask for? If you are not familiar go to meetup.com and search 'poker' groups.

Have you played Buzzzards tournaments? I know the're only once a month but they are likely the best you will find and rake free..
So after playing and bubbling a sit n 'go last Saturday at Jeff's place (Doghouse Poker Room) in Georgetown, my buddy Dave and I headed for Mohawk to play in the last night of cash ever to be played there. There was one full table going at 11:30pm and we managed to get the other table going for awhile before we transferred over to the main table. There were a lot of familiar faces and it was a fun night of poker with many laughs. The game wrapped up around 4:30 am with Dave and I playing the last hand of cash games at Mohawk ever...here is a selfie that Dave took...
Alas, it wasn't the very last poker hand to be played in the building though, as the day to follow (or rather later that same day Sunday) was scheduled the final tournament ever at OLG Mohawk at 2pm.
Once again the tournament was sold out at 20 runners and the two electronic table were filled. My friend Walt who has been grinding at Mohawk since pretty much Day 1 chopped 1st with AB. Another friend, Rod finished third. At the players request Raf, the poker room manager since it opened, agreed to run another $120 tournament for us players. There were 14 degens that played. I don't know who ended up playing the last hand and winning the final tournament - but congratulations! I busted early in the second and managed to final table the first go. Raf gave away some swag to the final table which was a nice touch. Thanks again Raf and good luck with the new position with OLG.
I think a lot of us who played there over the last few years are sad to see it close. We even joked about chaining ourselves to the Poker Pro tables and doing a sit in protest...lol. There was a real sense of comoradrie (sp?) playing in the room - let's not forget poker is also a social game for many. During the tournament as each player was eliminated, he'd go around and shake everyone's hand and wish them a farewell. There were some pats on the back and many heart felt hand shakes before the person left the room.
During my time spent at Mohawk I met some great people there playing poker and many of us have become good friends. Some of whom I have travelled to Niagara Falls, Montreal and Vegas with. I hope to see many of you again at the tables....
