Doug Lee of Calgary, Winner of WSOP championship event in Las Vegas, March 24, 2005

Doug Lee Wins as WSOP

Check it out!

I am actually suprised more Canadians have not won tournaments in the US. It was great to see him come out on top of a field that included Phil Ivey and Jennifer Harman. It would be a dream for me to match his accomplishment. What a run! :spade:

    yep it's him
Rene Angelil, Celine Dion's husband, went out on the TV table bubble after going all-in with his big slick and losing to Thaler's 7,10o when the flop paired the tens and Rene got no help.
  • Wow...very cool. I wonder if it would be hard to get ahold of him for an interview...
  • Yeah Calgary !
A few people I play with say they have met this guy at the casino's here in town. I'll see if I can get an email addy - and if I can, see if I can force him to join this forum and post about his win.
  • Im from Calgary and see the Superbomber" in the casino every now and then when i am there. I saw him a few days ago and asked to see his WSOP braclet.... but he didnt get one... he has a monster sized WSOP ring that looks really cool.. but no braclet.
I asked him if he was nervous at all playin with those guys, but he said after the first 10-15 minutes and getting used to the cameras and having an audience... he was good to go. NICE GUY... he answered a million questions about his win when i was there and didnt seem to mind at all. He's one of the guys that make the game look really good.
  • I played against him about a month ago in Calgary. He's an extrememly loose player......he was down moola that night but i think his win will make up for it.
    gggoooooOOOOOO CANADA
    Wader
  • Cool, so the_knife - are you going to het him to join PokerForum.ca? It would be good to have more high profile canadian players here - see what you can do !
  • Man, that's awesome! I remember playing against Doug in a $150 buy-in freezeout at Elbow River Casino in Calgary a few months ago. He is hyper-aggressive! Pretty much opened for a raise EVERY time it was folded to him preflop. I remember one hand I was in the BB w/ 6 2 o and he raised 3X BB in middle position, I came over top of him for 9X BB and he folded (I showed my bluff, thinking I was awesome but then he showed me 5 2 o!!!). In this particular tourney, his style didn't serve him too well because he busted out rather quickly. But I'll bet this style is quite effective in a big buy-in tournament with lots of play to the chips. This guy has got some serious game! We could learn a lot from him. Hopefully we can hunt him down.

  • does anyone know if he bought in direct or qualified through a satellite? anyways its grreat for our country and we (YES CANADIANS) have won 2 out 3 of the WSOP circuit events now (Nghi Van Tran i believe won in Atlantic City, correct me if i'm wrong)
  • I know he got into the event through a qualifier. Im pretty sure it was a 1 table $1000 dollar buy in and the winner gets the seat. A buddy of mine heard that it was a multi-table $250 buy in with a couple people getting seats. I think thats wrong but it is definitly one of those 2. He did not buy in for the 10 grand... so even more profit for the guy!!!
