Calgary poker

Moved back to Calgary and looking to play a bit more poker now that I'm a bit more settled. Suggestions on best places to go for tournaments, 2/5nl or bigger, and plo? I live in Kensington so Stampede is closest but I was there on Sunday and the place was pretty dead.

I've put in a few sessions at Stampede now. First day was pretty dead. Only game running was 1/2NL. Second day was able to get a PLO game going.

Deerfoot's a bit too far for me to go for cash games. I've already booked my schedule off to play the $1500 coming up in a few weeks though. I'll probably squeeze a couple of 5pm events too.

Deerfoot will have both 2/5 and big PLO this week with series running. Might be worth your trip....& T8 sucks Joanne is leaving, wondering if event planning will change much. Keep us posted on YEG

Haven't been down there this series at all but I played a bunch during the last one in November/December and cash games were incredible. Had 4-5 2/5 PLO games going on and, despite how popular PLO is here, there are definitely not that many good PLO players.

Cowboys is the nicest looking poker room. The flames play tomorrow which generates so many more soft players.

Ended up at cowboys as there was no waitlist. Things I have seen so far:

-Drunk fistfight in parking lot between man and girlfriend
-All in on the turn called with 6 high gutshot (and hit)
-same guy busto 10 hands later, then sold his iphone to buy back in.
-drunk at the table flipped over his hand, (1 pair) then announced all in. Snap called by trips.
-iphone guy busts again, sells something out of his backpack to the guy next to him for $100
-"i have a straight flush" announced at showdown in > $300 pot, board shows 2 diamonds
-drunk now irate after being cut off due to last call

Still playing, maybe more to follow.

what a game. I was told Calgary had some of the best action in Canada... definitely believe it. PPV i owe you a beer!

lost track of all the crazy shit that happened in this game, but as one more example... I was called by JJ and Q2 on an A88 board whie holding J8 sooted. Both of them were buddies, new to the game, and "thought I was bluffing.." Good for a $500 pot

... and yes Q2 is not a typo - he was even the last guy in.... WTF!

Man that's impressive... Are they really that bad? Swings must be crazy. I'm thinking HQ for PFC should move to Calgary. How many tables running?

had about 10 tables going while I was there - lots of 1-2 NL and a 1-2 PLO as well. Stayed pretty busy most of the night but eventually broke down to 4 tables just before I left at 5:30am

Now that I think about it, it was St Patricks Day so that may have been a factor... but after a few of these head scratchers I asked if the games were always like this - several of the locals said "yep!."

Moose I've got about 300 bullets ready for the Chaos tourney tonight..... it's on! (should have cashed it out in $5's)
