My first tourney

The structure of this tourney kinda sucked and the guys took way to much for themselves from the prize pool. first only paid 2500 from a 10000 pool incl rebuys and add ons. 9 players to a table and 11 tables with dealers. Blinds started at 25-50 for the first hour. then went 50-100 for the next. they were supposed to be doubling every 20 mins but didnt. My first hand i got sucked out on and went down to 300 chips. My next hand i saw KQ from the button and pushed all in got two callers hit top pair and trippled up.

A few hands later i am in LP and find AA raise it to 300, folds around the guy to my left he reraises another 500 so i pushed all in. He calls turns over 66 doesnt catch and i bust him out. He rebuys. Not much cards until the final hand of the hour i am UTG and see KK, So i tried the dumbest bluff ever and it payed off. " i say f#ck it its rebuy time lets gamble!" All in. folds all the way around to the guy i busted with aces and he says "yeah lets gamble" in my head i am screaming " FISH ON!" he calls and trun over Qs 9s and just dies. he doesnt catch and i bust him again. Now because of this i am really showin a tight image and have been able to from early position steal a few blinds.

My bust out hand. Blinds are at 200-400, About 40 players left from 99 top ten pays. I have 3800. rebuy period over. I am UTG i raise it to all in w/ QQ. tryin to just steal again but figure i am alright to a caller. I dont want to be called but if i do i should favored (atleast i think) So anyways UTG+1 folds UTG=2 says to me " I have to call u " he cals and he has me covered by 25 chips. He turns over AQ. and i am fealing pretty good he only has three cards to win it. Dealer gives him his ace on the turn and my tourney is over.

Now the whole table had been making some dumb plays early on and most got scared when the blinds got a little bigger, and my read thus far was they were scared anytime i would enter a pot with a raise. should i have played this differently? what should i have done better?

As a side not i think I played overall very good. Especially for my first tourney and i never rebought or added on soo i was pretty pleased with my preformance.

p.s could anyone give me my odds to win that hand against AQ. I had QcQH he had AsQd

  • Blinds 200/400 and you raise to 3800 a raise of 3400. To much, bet out 1600 and see a flop. Bet out your remaining stack on the flop if it doesn't bring an ace or scaryness.... You likely do want some action with you Queens as your stack at this point can use a lot more then the blinds. Of course, in saying all of this you did get somewhat unlucky when you were a 75% favourite. Important to note that you felt as though you played well and if not for that Ace you might have cashed in your first tournament, nice job.

  • Hey JuiceMan was that the Windsor Players Club tournment on Thursday at the Moose Lodge?? If it was on there site they claim that give a 100% of the prize pool. So the tournment was ran pretty badly?? Would you ever play in there tournment again?? I was thinkin of playing in that but ended up not doin it.
  • They claim to give 100% back but thats huge BS. I figured the numbers myself and they are keepin about 3000 for themselves. Which is fine if thats what they think they deserve but the way they ran it didnt warrant it at all. I dont want to but i probobly will cuz u still havent done nothin with ur club. lol
  • haha man I know my poker club has been slacking, ive been soo busy but Im gonna play in a few tournments to see how things are run then im going to have an event. 1 question, did they have custom made chips?? What was the competition like in the tournment?? I think im gonna check out the one on the 31th to see how it goes.

You were a 7:3 favourite. So don't feel too bad.

I think you overdid the bet a bit. You had 10xBB so no big rush for what could be coin toss. I agree with the earlier post for a 4xBB bet and pushing with a favourable flop (nothing over a Q).

Sounds to me like you did pretty well for a first live tourney. Keep it up.
  • I think your overraised your hand to begin with. Sure a call puts you pretty good, but in a tourey you don't want to lose all your chips. If you had an edge, you should be using it. But by pushing all your chips in, you took that edge away.

Ie, if you played it with a 3-4x raise, you would have left youself with around 2K ish. If an Ace popped, you would probably have been beat, but if it didn't, you could push all in knowing you had the best and the other person could either lay it down or call being a BIG underdog.
