I don't like tournaments

Am I the only one here who feels this way?

I don't mind playing some sit n gos here and there be it with a group of friends or online but as for MTTs they just really bore me and I just lose interest pretty quickly.

The past couple weeks I deposited some money into Stars to play in the micromillions and quickly busted out of most events I played and just shrugged.

Possibly because I've never really played in a serious tournament? Only in these smallish tournaments online and the normal 50-60 dollar tournaments you see at your local casino.

When i started I'd used to play those 2.20-5.50 events and it was crazy.. it was such a small amount of money but I found if I made it any decent length I'd always be stressing out and I have no idea why.. when I play live I'd be much more relaxed even with such a larger amount of money on the table or in a buy in.

meh..

  • Online tournaments, specially on stars have huge fields and take a long time. Also the payouts are top heavy, if you are 5 hours in and bust in like 29th/2000 you still get peanuts which is annoying. Specially when its a 3$ tournament and just get bored and punt your stack off because its only a 3$ tourny.

I love tournaments because of the feeling when you are so close to win and the adrenaline rush of the flip that can get you the chip-lead or set you up for the final table.

When you finally win a tournament for a big payday and crushing a 2k field, it feels like you are the unbeatable god of the game. That is why i love tournys :)

winning those big tourneys is a once in a lifetime event,i know as I was close but could never do it again.i was really wasted after playing against 7000 runners for 14 hours.

    T8 disagrees
  • Yah the fact that fields are just sooo huge really does take it out for me... one of the events I played was the micro millions main event.. I think there were 50k people.. lol

I guess live would be different.. last year I walked the rooms while the WSOP was going on and thought that was just the coolest.. but still such huge fields 6k for a $1500 event? wow.
  • there are a few on here who swear by live cash games (GTA comes to mind).

i completely understand your issues with low limit online tournaments. i am also kind of feeling the same way and have been concentrating on cash games much more lately.

however, i would suggest that there are some alternatives for you such as timed tournaments (which end after a designated time limit and get paid out based on chip counts) or capped tournaments with a limited number of entrants. there are also the multi-table SNGs with 45, 90, or 180 entrants which don't run too long.
  • I've never really enjoyed playing the larger field tourneys either. Far too much of an investment in time and sitting at the computer. I started out playing sit n goes and over the years have realized that's probably what I should stick to. For the last year or so I haven't even been playing them very much either. I do get the urge every now and again though.

Short while ago I got a nexus 7 tablet which changed things up a bit. At least I can play while sitting on the couch as my wife watches Survivor and slightly pretend I'm interested in the show in between hands.
  • What type of sit n gos do you play, Wildbill?
  • Used to love the $6.50's, then they made them $5.50's, now they've made them $7's. Sometimes (more often lately) just to torture myself, I've been playing the $3.50's. Usually turbo 6 max. Goes for about 1/2hr, maybe a little bit more.

Used to play 3 a night, every night. Now, when I do play it's just one and done.

Married life changes things for some of us.
  • I have become a winning grinder in the .05/.10/.15 no limit games on party poker.I have just as much fun as playing those stupid SNG Turbo games and have been making my gas money LOL
